Ich habe die beiden Scheiben schon vor einer Weile im Asian Blu-ray Guide hinzugefügt, aber jetzt wo die meiner Meinung nach recht gelungenen Covermotive veröffentlicht wurden, dachte ich mir, daß ich die US Blu-ray Discs von Battle Royale hier auch noch einmal erwähne.
Anchor Bay wird am 20. März Kinji Fukasakus Battle Royale in zwei Versionen auf den Markt bringen. Einmal als Standardedition (links) und als Complete Collection, die zusätzlich den zweiten Teil, Battle Royale: Requiem von Fukasakus Sohn Kenta beinhaltet.
Die Complete Collection enthält beide Schnittfassungen des ersten Teils, den Director’s Cut von Requiem sowie diverses Bonusmaterial auf vier Blu-ray Discs während Käufer der Standardedition “nur” den Director’s Cut bekommen.
In den “Genuß” der im letzten Jahr veröffentlichten 3D Fassung auf Blu-ray Disc kommen weiterhin nur Fans mit Japanischkenntnissen.
UPDATE: Capelight hat Battle Royale in 20 verschiedenen Fassungen (inklusive 3D) im Dezember wohl auch in Deutschland auf BD veröffentlicht. Danke für den Hinweis an XYZ!

Nach dem grottigen zweiten Teil und der Meldung über eine 3D “Aufwertung” des Originals von 2000 gibt es nun endlich mal wieder gutes über Battle Royale zu berichten.
Im Cult Labs Forum wird berichtet, daß Kinji Fukasakus Klassenkampfklassiker in Großbritannien am 4. Oktober von Arrow Films auf Blu-ray Disc veröffentlicht werden soll.
Details zu möglichen Remasteringmaßnahmen oder ähnliches gibt es noch nicht, sollten aber bald folgen. Bin mal gespannt, ob die Japan für “ihren” Film auch bald etwas hochauflösendes nachschieben.

Eben weil jeder Film durch 3D besser wird…

Japanese studio Toei is preparing a 3D version of Kinji Fukasaku’s cult action thriller Battle Royale, which is one of the widest selling movies ever from Japan.

Fukasaku’s son, Kenta Fukasaku, is supervising the 2D to 3D conversion in Tokyo through this production company Fukasaku-Gumi. Kinji Fukasaku passed away in 2003, so Kenta took over directing duties on a sequel, Battle Royale 2: Requiem, which was released later the same year.

The 3D version of the original will be ready for market screenings in October and released in Japan on November 20. Like the original, the 3D version will have an R-15 rating in Japan.
