The investigation of a prostitute homicide brings heavy-handed Detective Manfred (Leon Lai) in an unlikely collaboration with sly, man-of-the-world Inspector Kee (Richie Jen) from the Narcotics Bureau. When the DNA samples of one of Manfred’s fellow officers are found at the crime scene, implicating him as the prime suspect, Manfred must look beyond the obvious to get to the truth.

Meanwhile, Kee’s uncanny eagerness to lend a helping hand every step of the way outside his own turf is beginning to smack of evil. In the line of fire between high levels of corruption and possible malice, Manfred must solve all the twists and turns of the mystery, trying to figure out who his enemy is and how to save his innocent partner from unfathomable disgrace. Unwittingly, he is about to open a Pandora’s Box that will threaten to upend the entire Hong Kong Police Force.

Trailer zum zweiten Eden of the East Nachfolgefilm Paradise Lost von Stand Alone Complex Regisseur Kenji Kamiyama der nach einer Laufzeitverlängerung von 60 auf 90 Minuten (yeah!) mit leichter Verspätung am 13. März in die japanischen Kinos kommen soll.

Der erste Film, The King of Eden erscheint am 24. März in Japan auf Blu-ray Disc, natürlich ohne englische Untertitel.

Auf einer Promoveranstaltung zu Shutter Island hatten Kollegen von Screen Rant und MoviesOnline.ca die Gelegenheit, Skriptschreiberin Laeta Kalogridis zum aktuellen Stand der Arbeiten zum Realfilm von Ghost in the Shell zu befragen:

Q: Is that a remake of the 1995 film or is that an adaptation of the earlier manga?
LK: “Ghost in the Shell” was originally the manga. The anime came from the original graphic novel and then — and that anime, as you know, is a relatively famous, groundbreaking piece of material — also generated two seasons of an animated television show as well. And this is an adaptation of the original manga, the original comic book that sort of began everything.

Kalogridis told me that the script for Ghost In The Shell will be drawn from Masamune’s manga comic and that it has “a lot of action… lots of action.” However, she then added, “there’s still going to be a lot of atmosphere – [The movie] is about vast possibilities – all of this technology, the Internet – it’s about the limitless possibilities of this technology.”

Von der üblichen Skepsis gegenüber Hollywoodumsetzungen mal abgesehen freut es mich, daß Masamune Shirows Manga als Vorlage dienen soll, da dieser einige geniale Plots zu bieten hatte die in Mamoru Oshiis Verfilmung unberüht blieben und auch nur teilweise in den beiden Stand Alone Complex Staffeln angekratzt wurden.
