Before Watchmen: Watchmen Prequel Comics

I don’t mention comic book/graphic novel releases on AHT often, but since I followed Zack Snyder’s amazing adaptation of Watchmen very closely I thought I should report this as well.
Over 25 years after the release of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ original comic, DC Comics announced to bring back our favourite broken heroes back in comic form with the help of several authors and writers with the blessing of Dave Gibbons. The seven series (Rorschach, Comedian, Minutemen, Silk Spectre, Doctor Manhattan, Nite Owl, Ozymandias) and the special volume Before Watchmen: Epilogue will hit the shelves this summer.
I’ll probably wait for some kind of collection for all series…or just wait until the inevitable live-action adaptations get announced like I did with the original comic.

Watchmen Director’s Cut Deleted Scene

Just a week before the DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of Zack Snyder’s Watchmen Director’s Cut in the USA (somehow Europe only gets the theatrical cut) , Warner Home Entertainment has put one of the deleted and now reincluded scenes online. It shows the death of Hollis Mason shortly after Rorschach has been ‘freed’ from prison.
I’m not sure about the gang’s dialogue in the beginning, but I like how the fight scene just perfectly fits the incredible opening sequence. This clips may also hint at the way, Snyder will try to include the Tales of the Black Freighter comic sequences in the “Ultimate Version” that’s coming out just in time for Christmas.

Watchmen: Nite Owl Ship Limited Edition on Blu-ray

Warner Home Video has unveiled another exclusive collector’s edition for people with too much space left in their DVD Blu-ray Disc collection. Just like Batman: The Dark Knight, Zack Snyder’s Watchmen adaptation will get an Amazon.com exclusive limited edition especially for the director’s cut release on Blu-ray Disc.
A statue of Night Owl’s very own Owl Ship will hold the two discs in its base. Compared to the discs in the right picture, the statue should be about 30cm in length and height including the base. So far it’s unknown if the jets and lights will be illuminated and what material the miniature airship is made of.

The Amazon exclusive limited edition shown above and the standard edition on DVD and Blu-ray Disc will be released on July 21, 2009.

Watchmen: Rooftop Rescue Clip [Update]

Finally some footage from Zack Snyder’s Watchmen that hasn’t been cut to pieces like all the teasers, trailers and tv spots we’ve seen before. In this clip, Night Owl and Silk Spectre use the Batjet Owl Ship to rescue some people trapped in a burning house.

Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter Trailer

Oh my, the trailer for the Watchmen tale-in-tale Tales of the Black Freighter shows just what I’ve been worrying about after seeing the first few pictures. Not a trace of “the style of Japanese anime” like Gerard Butler, voice of shipwrecked captain chasing after the Black Freighter, promised in this interview with Empire Online. This looks just like the cheap DTV stuff Marvel currently releases to milk their superhero franchise. :(
