Thirst: Korean Blu-ray Disc with Director’s Cut in June

After the item has been listed in the shop for several months, K2DVD.com has now announced the release date for the Korean Blu-ray Disc release of Chan-wook Park’s Thirst (Bakjwi, 박쥐) coming on June 18th.
As you can see in the picture below, CJ Entertainment will use the same kind of fold-out digipak as in their recent Blu-ray Disc releases, but thanks to Kang-ho Song and Kim Ok-bin’s indecent (at least for Korea) pose, this one will stick out in your shelf.
Although it isn’t mentioned in the item description, the runtime of 144 minutes would mean that this release (unlike the Region B release from Palisades-Tartan running for 133 minutes) will include the longer director’s cut version of the film that was screened during last year’s Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) in October. I just hope K2DVD didn’t add the runtime of the extra features to this figure like they sometimes do…

Thirst: Korean DVD to include longer Director’s Cut

Great news for fans of director Chan-wook Park’s teen angsty-less vampire drama Thirst (Bakjwi, 박쥐).
Today the Asian retailer YesAsia.com added the Korean 3-Disc DVD release (coming March 15, 2010) that will not only include the theatrical cut (that’s already available on DVD and Blu-ray Disc) but also the extended director’s cut with English subtitles. The latter was screened during last year’s Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) in October with about ten minutes of added and extended scenes.
Judging from the product photo, CJ Entertainment’s release should (as always) also put the packaging of the recent International releases to shame, especially since it features the “banned” artwork with Kim Ok-bin’s intact legs. If the already announced Korean Blu-ray Disc release will also include the Director’s cut is currently not known.

Thirst & Haeundae: Bloody Disasters are coming to Blu-ray Disc in Korea

Wow, talking about good timing. Just when I got my copy of Palisades-Tartan’s UK Blu-ray Disc of Thirst (Region B, see 40 screen shots here), CJ Entertainment announces two new Korean releases. Next to Chan-wook Park’s vampire thriller, the Korean distributor will also release the first Korean disaster film Haeundae on Blu-ray Disc on March 15, 2010 according to K2DVD.com. CJ Entertainment’s BD releases have been region free and technically impressive (see The Good, The Bad, The Weird, Memories of Murder, Mother & Tazza) so far and maybe we will even see the longer cut of Thirst on this release…

Palisades Tartan to release THIRST on Blu-ray Disc

Good news for Chan-wook Park fans who want to quench their thirst for high definition. DVD Times reports that Palisades Tartan will release the vampire thriller Thirst in the UK on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on January 25, 2010.
Since the label only got the distribution rights for the UK, the Blu-ray Disc will most likely be coded for Region B like their recent releases. Focus Features will release Thirst on November 17th in North America but sadly only on DVD.

Just in time for the limited theatrical release in Germany via MFA+ on October 15th, Empire has posted a new clip from Chan-wook Park’s Thirst. Those of us without a proper cinema around just have to wait a few more days longer since the US DVD from Focus Features will already be released on November 18th. A Blu-ray Disc release is listed on Amazon.com as well, but currently without a release date.

Universal to unleash Chan-wook Park’s THIRST on DVD in November

DVD Times has posted first details and the cover artwork for Universal Studio Home Entertainments US DVD release of Chan-wook Park’s Thirst. The DVD will be released on November 17th, four months after the US and over half a year after the Korean theatrical opening. There’s no word of a Blu-ray Disc (yet), but I can’t imagine that Universal won’t bring us Thirst in sweet HD as well….DVD only releases are soooo 2007 after all!

New “Secret” Trailer for THIRST

While some lucky people can already enjoy the international premiere of Chan-wook Park’s Thirst at Cannes, most of us have to stick with trailers and clips to feed our personal thirst (sorry!) until a domestic theatrical or DVD (or even Blu-ray Disc) release gets announced. Luckily, the films official website is still getting updated even after the Korean theatrical opening on April 30 and now shows us a new trailer labelled “Secret”.

I couldn’t find any confirmation if Yeong-wook Jo is composing the score for Thirst, but after watching/listening to the music video that popped up on the official website, I’d wage my left testicle on the fact that Chan-wook Park did indeed hire his favourite composer again.

After an unfinished version of the theatrical trailer for Chan-wook Park’s Thirst leaked into the net last Sunday and had to be taken down at the request of the Korean copyright holder, the official version is now available online. This one still doesn’t appear on the (previously leaky) website but it’s already watchable at the Korean media portal Daum.net

Leaked Theatrical Trailer for Chan-wook Park’s THIRST

While snooping around the official Korean website for Chan-wook Park’s vampire drama Thirst, I stumbled upon the (so far) unreleased theatrical trailer that’s labeled as “coming soon” in the sites’ video section.
The two minutes long trailer mainly features scenes between Song Kang-ho and Kim Ok-bin, sadly without English subtitles. Strangely, the scenes that were removed/replaced in the Korean version of the teaser trailer are fully intact in this trailer, even though it’s probably been produced for the sensitive Korean market.

Sorry folks, the video has been removed at the request of the copyright holder. An official version is ~~supposed to be released at the end of the week.~~ now online!

According to the trailer, Thirst will open in South Korea on April 30, 2009, even though it was supposed to premiere during this years Cannes film festival which will be held from May 13 to May 24.

Alternative/Censored Korean Teaser Trailer for Chan-wook Park’s Thirst

The Korean website for Chan-wook Park’s vampire thriller Thirst ~~opened~~ launched a few day ago and is currently only presenting the already known first teaser trailer…or does it?!

In a direct comparison a few slight differences between both versions stand out. While the international version shows how the (apparently) departed priest gets a cross ‘painted’ on his cold hand, a crucifix with a mummified Jesus can be seen in the Korean version. Song Kang-ho’s “lunch” has been replaced with a slighty less bloody variant. The Korean version also replaces the short sex scene between Song Kang-ho and Kim Ok-bin with some non-objectionable cuddling and just the beginning of a kiss. Guess these scenes had to be changed for the same reasons that the original poster artwork had to be castrated for.

Thirst: South Korea bans suggestive ‘Bat’ poster

Looks like the ideas of director Chan-wook Park’s design team didn’t strike the right chord with the South Korean Media Rating Board as it’s members banned the latest poster motive for Park’s latest film Thirst for depicting a priest in a sexual context. The poster features Song Kang-ho (the priest) and Kim Ok-bin (the sexual context) who form a stylized bat (= 박쥐, the Korean title). For domestic promotion, Kim Ok-bin’s legs had to be removed by a professional photoshop-surgeon, but luckily, they’ll stay on the international poster artworks.
