Gestern Abend ging eine wahre Schockwelle durch das Internetz: Disney kauft Lucasfilm!!!
Für 4 Milliarden US$ schnappt der US Entertainment Gigant damit auch die Rechte an Star Wars und verkündet gleichzeitig die Reihe bereits 2015 mit Episode VII im Kino fortzusetzen. Disneys CEO Robert Iger spricht bei USA Today sogar gleich weitere Episoden im Abstand von zwei bis drei Jahren an. Zudem gibt es Überlegungen eine (zusätzliche) Star Wars Fernsehserie auf Disneys hauseigenen Sender Disney XD zu platzieren.
George Lucas selbst will/soll bei den Projekten nur noch beratend tätig werden.

In meinen Augen ist der Verkauf von Lucasfilm eines der besten Dinge, die Star Wars passieren konnte, wenn man dem Franchise Fortschritt und Weiterentwicklung zugesteht und nicht mit verschränkten Armen auf die gute alte Originaltrilogie verweist.
Kindgerechter und (in den Augen vieler Fans) schlimmer als das was George Lucas seiner Schöpfung in den letzten Jahren angetan und zugetraut hat kann es unter Disney auch nicht mehr werden. Was viele in ihrem ersten reflexartigen Losmeckern gerne vergessen: Disney ist (trotz des Artikelbilds) schon lange nicht nur Mickey Mouse und quietschbunte Vergnügungsparks. Zusammen mit Pixar und Marvel hat man uns mit sehr fähigen Leuten einige mehr als gute Filmproduktionen beschert, von der auch das Star Wars Universum mit Treue und Liebe zum Original profitieren kann.
Wenn die nachfolgenden Star Wars Episoden nicht nur finanziell sondern auch in den Augen der bisher oft enttäuschten Fans ein Erfolg werden sollen, bietet das Disney Imperium mit seinen finanziellen und kreativen Ressourcen und Erfahrungen dafür einen hervorragenden Nährboden.
Ich zumindest bin gespannt, was uns bis 2015 so erwartet. Besonders auch auf die schonmal angekündigte, dunklere TV Serie über in der Unterwelt des Star Wars Universums spielen soll.

20th Century Fox has released a trailer for the upcoming Blu-ray Disc release of the Star Wars Trilogies that shows some legendary deleted scenes (like the Wampa attack on Hoth Echo Base, Tatooine sand storms etc.) from the classic trilogy.
Of course these deleted scenes will only be available in the Complete Collection Set that includes all six films instead of those three you actually want to see again and again…

To celebrate Star Wars Day, Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox released technical details and the cover artwork for the three Star Wars Blu-ray Disc collections that will hit the stores (and our wallets) on September, 12th (16th for the US):

What a nice start into the new year. During the CES, Lord Vader himself announced that the Star Wars saga will finally be available on Blu-ray Disc this September!
As expected from Mr. Lucas, there will not only be one complete box set including all six films of the saga with loads of bonus material on three discs but also individual box set with the films of the old original and prequel trilogy. All three sets are already available for pre-order at Amazon.com. To celebrate the announcement, Lucasfilm has created a short trailer with some random footage from all six films:
