Despite all the buzz, and exec producer McG, and a “phenomenal cast”, Spaced is a no-go, I’m told. FBC just turned thumbs down on the WBTV/Wonderland pilot, which was adapted from the successful British TV series.

Der australische Schauspieler Josh Lawson soll laut Hollywood Reporter die Rolle des Ben (Tim im Original) im Spaced Remake übernehmen.

Normalerweise gebe ich nichts auf Reviews, die einen Film vor der Fertigstellung nur auf Basis des Drehbuchs bewerten, aber beim Collider Script Review vom US Spaced Remake (McSpaced getauft) konnte ich einfach nicht widerstehen und musste einen Blick riskieren.

The sad thing is (or at least, one of many sad things regarding this project) that this script is probably as good as it could get short of having the input of Pegg/Stevenson/Wright and the courage to take the premise and similar characters and move it in an entirely new direction. But this imitation of greatness is just that: an imitation. You can crib all the lines you want from the original but the truth is this: There’s only one Simon Pegg. There’s only one Jessica Stevenson. There’s only one Edgar Wright. And without even so much as their blessing in attempting a remake, there’s really only one “Spaced”. Barr’s script is the key piece of evidence proving that these three people were not just the creators of the show but an essential part of why it worked.

Variety meldet daß das von Edgar Wright liebevoll McSpaced getaufte US Remake von Spaced nun wirklich unter der Leitung von Adam Barr, McG und Robert Green mit einem Pilot anlaufen soll. Wobei man das gesamte Spaced Konzept ohne das Mitwirken der alten Crew wohl wirklich auf folgendes reduzieren lassen kann:

Single-cam half-hour revolves around a young man and woman who pose as a couple in order to rent a cheap apartment.

Fox plant offenbar, zusammen mit Warner Bros. TV eine US Version einer der besten und mit nur 14 Episoden leider auch kürzesten britischen Serien, nämlich Edgar Wrights (Regie), Simon Peggs und Jessica Hynes’ (beide Drehbuch) Spaced auf den Markt zu scheißen bringen. Lustigerweise wurde Edgar Wright davon im Vorfeld garnicht informiert, wie er auf seiner My$pace Seite mit einem Link auf den Variety Bericht erwähnt.

Net has given a put pilot order to the project, originally created by the “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz” team of Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright (as well as Jessica Stevenson). “Will & Grace” alum Adam Barr is set to adapt the show for the U.S.

Wonderland Sound and Vision is behind the project, as well as Warner Bros. TV (where Wonderland is based) and Granada, which holds format rights. Wonderland TV prexy Peter Johnson first discovered the show while talking to someone at a comicbook store; as a “Shaun of the Dead” fan, he quickly looked to seal the rights.

Wonderland’s McG and Granada’s Robert Green will exec produce alongside Barr; the extent of Pegg’s and Wright’s involvement is still unclear. But Johnson likens the effort to NBC’s adaptation of Ricky Gervais’ and Stephen Merchant’s “The Office” for the U.S., with Greg Daniels in charge.

Update: Edgar hat seinen Eintrag aktualisiert und bestätigt, daß Simon Pegg ebenfalls nichts von dem Unterfangen, welches er liebevoll McSpaced getauft hat, weiß.

Simon Pegg hat in einem Interview mit dem MTV Movies Blog erste Details zu seinem gemeinsamen Projekt mit seinem Busenkumpel und Kollegen Nick Frost bekannt gegeben. Der Roadmovie mit dem Arbeitstitel “Paul” handelt von zwei geekigen Briten, die gemeinsam die Vereinigten Staaten unsicher machen. Ein Regisseur für das Projekt steht bisher noch nicht fest, Edgar Wright soll es jedoch nicht sein, mit dem planen die beiden nämlich nach Spaced, Shaun of the Dead und Hot Fuzz schon ein anderes Meisterwerk.

Gefunden bei Internet Movie Poster Awards

Der deutsche Kinostart von Hot Fuzz wurde übrigens inzwischen auf den 14.06.07 gelegt, hoffentlich beeilen sich die Briten und hauen kurz nach dem GB Kinostart im Februar eine DVD raus.

Working Title Films hat zwei kurze Teaser Trailer zu Hot Fuzz, dem neuen Film vom Team hinter Shaun of the Dead und Spaced, sprich Simon Pegg und Edgar Wright, veröffentlicht.


Hot Fuzz handelt von dem eifrigen Londoner Polizist Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg), der von eifersüchtigen Kollegen in das verschlafene Kaff Sandfort versetzt wird, wo er sich mit seinem neuen, leicht trotteligen Partner Danny Butterman (Nick Frost) sowie plötzlich auftretenden, sehr ungewöhnlichen Unfällen herumschlagen muss.

Auf der Working Title Films Seite gibt es ein zwölfteiliges Videoblog zu den Dreharbeiten, sehr sehenswert. Der Film soll im März 2007 in GB starten.
