First Teaser Trailer for Fumihiko Sori’s TO

Last night the Japanese website for TO, Fumihiko Sori’s adaptation of Yukinobu Hoshino’s Sci-Fi Manga 2001 Nights (2001 Ya Monotogari) has been updated and is now streaming the very first teaser trailer. It doesn’t show much (most the already known space ship) but at least we now know that Sori will use CG animation like he did in Vexille.

[thanks to Quiet Earth for the heads up!]

Director and visual effects artist Matthew Santoro shows us his vision of what our good ‘ol porn internet becomes in his gritty sci-fi project OFFLINE…the INFINET!

“The future is not some place we are going to, but one we are creating.”
In this future, the world is dying a slow and ugly death. In an effort to cope or perhaps out of pure denial, humanity has become increasingly obsessed with mass media. The Internet has evolved into an all-consuming visceral experience where every one’s perception of the world around them is fully customized. The brown smog in the sky can be easily ignored when a beautiful sunset is projected through your optic nerve, courtesy of the Naneuron Corporation. By inserting bio-technology into the cerebrum, humans are now able to experience an all-consuming filter of reality where everything you can do on a computer, PDA and the internet in general, takes place in your own mind as you go about your day.

Fumihiko Sori to re-animate Sci-Fi Manga 2001 Nights

ANN has posted first details on the new project from Fumihiko Sori, director of Ping Pong, Vexille and Ichi, and director of Appleseed. According to the news, Sori will direct To, an adaptation of the sci-fi manga 2001 Nights (2001 Ya Monotogari) from Yukinobu Hoshino. The manga was published between 1984 to 1986 and tells several short stories about mankind’s adventures in space. It was already adapted in 1987 as the 60-minutes OVA Space Fantasia 2001 Nights.
It’s yet unknown if Sori will use traditional animation or rather power-up the rendering super machines like he did for Vexille and Appleseed. Avex has opened the official website for the To project yesterday but until now it only shows the teaser artwork below.

Technotise: Edit & I

I’ve stumbled upon this very interesting looking animation project Technotise: Edit i ja (Edit & I) by the Serbian (comic) artist Aleksa Gajic over at Cinema Beacon. While I’m not a big fan of this “smooth” European animation style, I must say that I can’t wait to see more of this world consisting of old and future technology presented in the trailers below and in Gajic’s original comic & production gallery.
The plot is set in 2074 Belgrade (Beograde). After failing the same university exam for the sixth time, the main character Edit decides to visit a dealer on the black market who installs a stolen military chip in her to help her pass. To her surprise, the chip affords her abilities greater than she ever imagined. Needless to say, the government/military is intent on getting back the chip…
