Evangelion 3.0: International Title Announced

Just in time for the new year, the official website of the Rebuild of Evangelion project has been updated with the International title of the third (of four) Evangelion movie.
Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo is supposed to open in Japanese theaters in Fall 2012 followed by the final movie in 2013. A first teaser was released back in August.

Sorry, but this is another contest that is only open for readers living in Germany…
Es gibt mal wieder was feines abzustauben im Affenheimtheater!
Universum Anime hat mir freundlicherweise jeweils zwei Exemplare der deutschen Blu-ray Disc Veröffentlichungen der Neon Genesis Evangelion Neuinterpretationen Evangelion 1.11: You Are (Not) Alone und Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance zur Verfügung gestellt.
Um eine der netten Blauscheiben (besonders 2.22 braucht sich nicht vor den internationalen Veröffentlichungen zu verstecken) zu gewinnen, braucht ihr einfach bis Dienstag Mitternacht (21.09.2010 23:59 Serverzeit) hier einen Kommentar hinterlassen, in dem ihr kurz erläutert wer euer liebster EVA Pilot bzw. Pilotin ist. Bei kritischen Details bitte Spoilertags benutzen, Danke!

FUNimation acquires Summer Wars and Evangelion 2.0

After various rumors and indication, FUNimation today finally announced that they indeed have acquired the US rights for Mamoru Hosoda und Satoko Okuderas Summer Wars and the second part of the Rebuild of Evangelion saga, Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance. Both films will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in 2011 while Summer Wars will also get a theatrical release in 2010.
Speaking of Summer Wars, Taiwanese distributor Mighty will release the award winning anime as a nice looking Blu-ray Disc special edition with a bonus DVD, a film strip and English subtitles on September 10th.

Evangelion 2.22: Region Code and Subtitles Details for Hong Kong Blu-ray Disc

Just a quick update on the highly anticipated Hong Kong Blu-ray Disc release of Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance.
The English subtitles are separated from the Chinese ones and are, according to AnimeOnDVD Forum user DiGiKerot, the same as in the international theatrical screenings. However, it looks like Asia Video had to translate the new 2.22 scenes (about three minutes) themselves and the results are supposed to be “pretty Engrishy (and occasionally not very accurate)“.
The disc (25GB) is locked to Region A (Asian Blu-ray Guide User Phillip), so it won’t play on umodified European (or Australian) Blu-ray Disc players.
After some delays, Universum Anime will release Evangelion 2.22 in Germany on September 17th, but I guess this won’t help most of you who are reading this version of the site…
During the Anime Expo, FUNimation stated (see panel transcript) that they haven’t acquired the US rights and since Manga Entertainment UK probably depends on FUNimation for such a big release, the choice of English friendly releases will stay slim for some time now.

Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance: HK Blu-ray Disc and DVD with English subtitles

About a week before the Japanese Blu-ray Disc release of Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance hits the shelves, Asia Video announces a little present for us Japanese-impaired Evangelion fans. According to YesAsia.com, the Hong Kong based distributor will release the film on Blu-ray Disc and DVD with English subtitles in two editions on June 25th. Next to the standard edition (DVD) which looks a lot like the Japanese release, there will also be a limited Edition (DVD) with some goodies…an Evangelion shopping bag and something Google just can’t translate.

The Blu-ray Disc editions will include the original Japanese 2.0 and 6.1 track and the Cantonese dub in 2.0, the used audio codec isn’t mentioned. Traditional Chinese subtitles are also listed, let’s hope Asia Video won’t make the same mistake as Panasia Films with their 20th Century Boys Blu-ray Disc releases. All editions are listed as Region A/Region 3.

More Asuka! Details for Evangelion 2.22 Announced

King Records announced some details for their upcoming (May 26th) Japanese DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance on their TAF2010 booth.
Just like with the first part of the Rebuild of Evangelion series, Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone, Gainax will include several adjustments/improvements and new scenes to upgrade the theatrical 2.0 version to the 2.22 home video version. Thanks to some more scenes featuring hot-headed Asuka and EVA Unit 03, the run time will grow from 108 minutes to 111 minutes and 49 seconds.
Other than the usual bonus material (AR script and promotion material like teasers, trailers and TV spots), the limited first press editions of the DVD and Blu-ray Disc will include a deluxe booklet and a film strip, but no English subtitles.
While Evangelion 2.0 is supposed to be released in Germany on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on July 16th, FUNimation hasn’t announced anything regarding their plans to bring it to the US yet.

Evangelion 2.22 coming to DVD and Blu-ray Disc in Japan in May, German release follows in July!

I won’t say much about the announcement of the Japanese home video release of Evangelion 2.0: You can (not) advance because German distributor Universum Anime pretty much stomped it to the ground (if you’re able to understand German that is) with their own announcement. Well: King Records will release Evangelion 2.0 in a longer 2.22 cut on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in Japan on May 24th, 2010. As espected this release won’t include English subtitles and the cover artwork (see left) isn’t much to write home about.
Just a few hours after King Records’ announcement, Universum Anime posted in the label’s own message board that they will release this version on DVD (in a limited edition steelbook) and Blu-ray Disc just two months later on July 16, 2010! They also mentioned to release Evangelion 1.11 on Blu-ray Disc (which was only available on DVD in Germany) on the same day.
FUNimation hasn’t mentioned Evangelion 2.0 so far (even though they’re releasing 1.11 on Blu-ray Disc on March 8th) and if they keep up their pace, I don’t think 2.0 will come to the US in 2010. While I’m no big fan of German releases (I prefer English subtitles), I think I’ll get the 2.0 one just for a change if the (technical) reviews are good…

Evangelion 2.0 to be screened at Asia Filmfest 2009 in Munich

After the premiere screening of Evangelion 2.0: You can (not) advance on the German AnimagiC convention in Bonn has been canceled because of license problems, fans will get another chance to see the second part of the Rebuild of Evangelion series on the big screen.
According to the latest news letter of the Asia Filmfest 2009, the film will be one of the festival highlights to be screened in Munich starting October 29th.
Those of you who don’t want to drive to Munich in October will have to wait until May 2010 when Universal Anime, according to AniView, will release the film in the “improved” 2.01 version on DVD and probably also on Blu-ray Disc.

No Evangelion 2.0 & Gurren Lagann on AnimagiC

I just got the confirmation that some unpleasant changes were made to the program of this years Animagic and the related Animotion film festival. Despite former announcements both Gurren Lagann movies and Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance will NOT be screened on the festival because of license problems! Evangelion 1.11 US DVD and Blu-ray in Spring 2010!

Reasonable good news for Japanese-impaired Neon Genesis Evangelion fans. Yesterday FUNimation announced to mirror the Japanese release scheme for the first part of the Rebuild of Evangelion film series, You Are (Not) Alone.

Meaning: the original 1.0 version will be screened in selected theaters, 1.01 will come on DVD this fall and the current 1.11 version will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc Spring 2010.
The latter announcement should make _some_ of us pretty happy because until now, there’s no English subtitled Blu-ray Disc release of the film available. Unfortunately, FUNimation locks their Blu-ray Discs to Region A so we in Region B have to hope that maybe Manga Entertainment UK will bring this release to us like they did with Afro Samurai and soon Shigurui. However, I guess the main question is: What version number will our Japanese friends see next Spring when they even got ANOTHER version for the TV broadcast?!

English dubbed Trailer for Evangelion 1.0

Just in time for the limited theatrical release in the US, FUNimation released an English dubbed trailer for the first part of the Rebuild of Evangelion series Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone. While I’m not a friend of dubbed anime, I have to admit that FUNimation did a great job with the scene selection and composition in the trailer. Too bad they will only release a DVD edition in November and no Blu-ray Disc like our ~~good~~ egoistic friends in Japan.

Evangelion 2.0 visits Germany for Animotion 2009

High-caliber announcement for this year’s Animotion fim festival that will take place during the AnimagiC convention in Bonn, Germany. According to this announcement, Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance will be shown just one month after the Japanese theatrical premiere, from July 31 to August 2 in the WOKI Filmpalast with English subtitles!
Other than this German (or even European?) premiere, the announcement mentions Afro Samurai: Resurrection, The Piano Forest and Summer Days with Coo as other anime highlights for the festival.

Mobilecam Bootleg Ninja strikes again! The very first trailer for Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, the second film of the Rebuild of Evangelion series has found it’s way into the net after being shown during an advanced ticket sale screening. It shows the return of red headed sweetheart Asuka Langley Soryu, some more angel attacks and confirms the Japanese release date on June 27th.

Rebuild of Evangelion: 1.11 on Blu-ray Disc and 2.0 in cinemas

Good news for all you Neon Genesis Evangelion fans out there…at least for those of you speaking Japanese and/or living in Japan. Gainax announced that the second film of the Rebuild of Evangelion series will open June 27, 2009 in cinemas across Japan. Advanced tickets sale will start March 14, 2009, the same day a new teaser trailer will hit the screens.

The first film, Evangelion: You Are (Not) Alone got yet another upgrade, pushing the version number to 1.11 will be (re-)released on DVD (1.01 has been released in April 2008) and Blu-ray Disc from King Records on May 27, 2009 in Japan. AV Watch doesn’t mention English subtitles and I don’t think this sad fact is gonna change since international distribution rights have already been sold (e.g. to FUNimation and ufa Anime) and Gainax probably doesn’t want to spoil the license price for 2.0…

Rebuild of Evangelion: Titel für 2.0 steht fest

Mit dem Relaunch der offiziellen Website wurde der Titel zum zweiten Teil des Rebuild of Evangelion Projekts der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt. Evangelion 2.0 erhält den Untertitel You Can (Not) Advance und soll im Sommer 2009 in die japanischen Kinos kommen. Ob sich der Untertitel auch auf den Produktionsprozess bezieht ist unklar, Fans können sich aber schonmal auf ein Wiedersehen mit Asuka Langley Soryu und neuen EVA Modellen freuen.

Rebuild of Evangelion: Evangelion 1.01 im Steelbook von ufa Anime

Da haben sich die Covergestalter von ufa Anime aber mal ordentlich ins Zeug gelegt, als es darum ging ein passendes Motiv für die deutsche Veröffentlichung der ersten Rebuild of Evangelion Episode Evangelion 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone auszusuchen. Gefällt mir sogar einen Tick besser als das Motiv, von dem ich bereits im letzten September geschwärmt hatte. Sammler dürften sich besonders darüber freuen, daß die Special Edition ab dem 20. Oktober nicht im Standard Amaray, sondern im passenden Steelbook daher kommt und auch die wiederrum verbesserte 1.01 Version der Episode enthält.

ufa Anime bringt Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0 nach Deutschland

Das AnimaniA Magazin berichtet, daß ufa Anime den ersten Teil des Rebuild of Evangelion Projekts, Evangelion 1.0: You Are (not) Alone nicht nur auf der diesjährigen AnimagiC im August zeigen, sondern auch auf DVD veröffentlichen wird. Amazon.de hat die Scheibe bereits für den 20. Oktober gelistet, eine Woche früher wird die komplette TV Serie erneut als Complete Collection auf DVD erscheinen…für alle die noch nicht drei Varianten im Regal stehen haben.
Am US Markt ist währenddessen weiterhin keine Veröffentlichung in Sicht, ADV hat offenbar momentan besseres zu tun als sich so einen Lizenzbrocken zu angeln.

AnimagiC 2008: Premieren und Ehrengäste zum Con Jubiläum

Das Team des AnimaniA Magazins hat Neuigkeiten zur diesjährigen AnimagiC Convention bekannt gegeben. Die mittlerweile zehnte Ausgabe der Anime, Manga und Nippon Ausstellung wird dieses Jahr vom 1. bis 3. August in der Beethovenhalle in Bonn abgehalten.
Zeitgleich findet im WOKI Filmpalast das Animotion Filmfestival statt, auf dem als Deutschlandpremiere Rebuild of Evangelion: Evangelion 1.0: You Are [Not] Alone präsentiert wird. Außerdem gibt es noch Appleseed: Ex Machina, Sword of the Stranger (Mukoh Hadan), Vexille sowie Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa zu sehen, alle Filme erfreulicherweise im japanischen Originalton mit englischen Untertiteln.
Personaltechnisch wird ebenfalls einiges geboten, als Ehrengäste werden Appleseed (Ex Machina) Regisseur Shinji Aramaki, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Schöpfer Kenji Kamiyama von Production I.G sowie Studio BONES Gründer Masahiko Minami präsentiert. Zudem werden diverse Manga-ka aus Japan und Deutschland die Messe unsicher machen, wobei J-Pop Sternchen Nana Kitade mit einem Konzert am 2. August für passende musikalische Untermalung sorgt.
Mal schauen ob ich dieses Jahr Zeit habe dort aufzukreuzen, der Termin ist leider gefährlich nah am Abschluß meiner Diplomarbeit dran. Aber vielleicht wenn die Presseakkreditierung durchkommt…

Rebuild of Evangelion: 1.0 -> 1.01 Update

Das Anime Studio Gainax hat angekündigt den erst im letzten September in den japanischen Kinos gezeigten ersten Teil der Rebuild of Evangelion Neon Genesis Evangelion Neuerzählung als erweiterte Fassung erneut ins Kino zu bringen. Regisseur Hideaki Anno hat für die japanische DVD Veröffentlichung die Kinofassung des Films bei 266 Shots überarbeiten lassen und will diese den zahlenden Fans ab dem 26. April als Evangelion: 1.01 You Are (Not) Alone erneut in ausgewählten Kinos präsentieren.
Wenigstens ist Gainax so fair und veröffentlicht bereits die erweiterte Version auf DVD und schiebt nicht vier Monate später eine Evangelion: 1.01 We Want Your Money (Again) DVD hinterher…

Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0 aus Australien

Während sich die US Animeindustrie nach dem Aus von Geneon und dem noch instabilen Zustand von ADV Films mit Neulizenzierungen etwas zurück hält, werden auf der südlichen Hemisphäre ganz dicke Lizenzbrötchen gebacken. So hat der bisher durch Lizenzen für Spielesoftware ‘bekannte’ australische Vetrieb Red Ant in einer Pressemitteilung seine Zusammenarbeit mit dem australasiatischen Filmvertrieb Rialto Distribution angekündigt. Im Rahmen dieser Gemeinschaft soll Red Ant neben diversen (mir) unbekannten Filmschinken auch Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0: You Are (not) Alone auf DVD veröffentlicht werden. Als Veröffentlichungsdatum wird in der Pressemitteilung leider nur vage das Jahr 2008 erwähnt, was bei der momentanten Marktlage in den USA aber immerhin schonmal etwas ist worüber man sich als japanischunkundiger Normalverdiener, der sich die japanische DVD im April nicht zulegen möchte freuen kann.

Rebuild of Evangelion: Evangelion 1.0 Japan DVD angekündigt

Das japanische DVD Label StarChild hat die japanische DVD Veröffentlichung zum ersten Teil des Rebuild of Evangelion Projekts angekündigt. Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone soll am 25. April als Special Equipment Edition erscheinen, die auf zwei DVDs den Film mit ausführlichem Bonusmaterial (genialerweise Evangelion 1.01 genannt), Trailern, Musikvideos etc. sowie ein Booklet + Filmframe enthält. Die reguläre Edition mit nur einer DVD und einem schmaleren Booklet erscheint am 21. Mai. Englische Untertitel gibt es natürlich keine und auch über HD Versionen wurde bisher kein Wort verloren…

Auf dem Pusan International Film Festival in Südkorea wurde Rebuild of Evanglion: 1.0: You are (not) alone zum ersten Mal außerhalb Japans (halbwegs) öffentlich vorgeführt und schwupps packt einer der Zuschauer die Taschenkamera aus und hat das nach dem Abspann gezeigte Preview für Episode 2.0 sowie zwei kurze, aber dennoch optisch beeindruckende Sequenzen aus 1.0 abgefilmt. Pöser, pöser Bube! Beim nächsten mal aber bitte den Zoom benutzen!

Musikvideo mit vielen neuen Auschnitten aus dem ersten Film aus dem Rebuild of Evanglion Projekt: Evangelion 1.0: You are (not) alone. Der Titel heißt Angel of Doom und ist in einer längeren und bombastischeren Version auf dem in Japan frisch erschienen Soundtrack von Sagisu Shiro zu finden.
