Reign of Assassins: HK DVD and Blu-ray Disc in November

Some time ago I decided not to report every upcoming home video release of films I mention on this site, but I think most of you (who don’t regularly check the Asian Blu-ray Guide) might be interested in this.
YesAsia just listed the Hong Kong DVD and Blu-ray Disc of John Woo’s Reign of Assassins for November 25th. Just as expected from Mega Star, both versions will include English subtitles. YesAsia states that the Blu-ray Disc will be locked to Region A, but knowing Mega Star there’s a good chance that this might be region free after all.
[Thanks to Supavince for the heads up!]

Synopsis:

428AD, Bodhi, a Southern India prince became a Buddhist monk and set off for China, earning a hallowed reputation as a mystical martial artist. Following his death, his remains mysteriously disappeared.

Hundreds of years later, Zhang, a high-ranking court official, is assassinated by Drizzle. Zhang’s son Jingxiu, whilst mourning his father’s death, is assailed by a group assassins. They leave him for dead, but somehow he survives and escapes their clutches.

Drizzle, a talented warrior herself, finds herself in possession of Bodhi’s remains, and begins her quest to return them to their rightful resting place at Yunhe Temple. The Black Stone, a team of deadly assassins who employed Drizzle, are also after the remains and the powerful secret they hold. To hide from The Black Stone, Drizzle undergoes drastic facial surgery and changes her name to Zeng Jing (Michelle Yeoh). She flees to Beijing, where she meets and falls in love with Jiang, soon to become her husband.

After a confrontation in Beijing, Zeng Jing’s identity is uncovered and both she and Jiang must flee for their lives. As Zeng Jing kills off members of the gang while they are on the run, she quickly realises Jiang is actually Jingxiu, and he is seeking to avenge his father’s death. This leads to a lethal triangle and a fight to death between our hero Zeng Jing, Jiang and The Black Stone.

The only question remains who will be the last ones standing to uncover the secret of Bodhi’s remains?

Amazing first Promo Trailer for The Warrior’s Way aka The Laundry Warrior

The first, probably very inofficial promo trailer for The Warriors Way has found its way into the net. The project was formerly know (back when the KFC Cinema forum was still online) under the more creative name The Laundry Warrior and tells the story of the world’s greatest swordsman Yang (Dong-Kun Jang) who saves the baby child of his enemy and has to flee Asia to escape his own clan. During his journey through the wild west he befriends a band of carnival players and gets drawn into a battle with a gang of vicious bandits. Although Yang wanted to put his violent past behind him he’s forced to draw his sword again to defend his new friends…

Cannes Promo Teaser for Daniel Lee’s 14 Blades

A first promotional teaser for Daniel Lee’s Wuxia adventure 14 Blades starring Donnie Yen was shown during the Cannes film festival and found it’s way into the net. The quality isn’t great and the narrator’s distorted voice in the show booth kinda reminds me of a ride in a cheap ghost train, but I guess it’s better than nothing.

Official synopsis:

During the Ming Dynasty, the Emperor of China possessed one weapon greater than all others, the Jinyiwei, an elite force of assassins recruited from street orphans. Trained in clandestine combat from childhood, the Jinyiwei were masters of the 14 Blades, eight being for torture, five for killing, and the last blade being reserved for suicide when a mission failed. Above the law, with a license to kill, the Jinyiwei devoted their lives and lethal prowess to the service of the Emperor alone.
When the Imperial Court is taken over by evil eunuch JIA, the best of the Jinyiwei, QUINGLONG and XUANWU, are assigned to steal a list identifying those still loyal to the Emperor. However unbeknownst to Quinglong, the Jinyiwei have fallen under the control of Jia, and during the mission Quinglong is betrayed by Xuanwu and barely escapes with his life. Now as the most wanted man in the land Quinglong must seek out and rally the loyalists to rise against Jia and restore the Emperor to power. In his way are the deadliest assassins in the land, his former brethren, the Jinyiwei.

There’s an interesting article available over at Kung Fu Cinema that shines some light on the possible historical background of the film and what other movies might have “inspired” Lee.
