Production I.G teases us with third Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Season (3rd GIG)

mmh, sometimes it really pays off to read the entire news entry and follow the links within. The ANN entry on the Jin-Roh live-action adaptation (some of you might remember it) leads to their complete report of the Production I.G panel on Anime Expo 2009 where the following paragraph gives some hope to all Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex fans and tachikoma lovers:

During the question and answer session, one fan asked about the possibility of a third season of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Terashima-Furuta answered that she expects the project to happen, but that the director is currently tied up in other projects.

I hope those other projects are the two follow-up movies for Eden of the East so director Kenji Kamiyama can get back to the Ghost in the Shell universe ASAP!

Will we see a Jin-Roh Live-Action Adaptation soon?

During this years Anime Expo, Production I.G vice-president Maki Terashima-Furuta acknowledged/confirmed that the live-action rights for Jin-Roh – The Wolf Brigade have been sold to “somebody” and that this “somebody” is planning to produce a live-action film based on Hiroyuki Okiura’s anime. However, she wouldn’t spill out any more details on the name of the buyer or when production will start.
I hope it’s a Japanese studio/record company so every role will be played by some young J-Pop star that will storm the charts with their cheesy title song that will also ruin every trailer.
Or maybe an US studio that will dumb down the original to get a PG-13 rating and will just let “some Asian looking guy” (probably Keanu Reeves) take the lead. Can’t wait to see it…
The Jin-Roh universe has already been transferred into the real-world, Mamoru Oshii directed two films, “Stray Dog” and “Red Spectacles” starring the distinctive Kerberos special unit. See Bandai’s trailer for the “Mamoru Oshii Cinema Trilogy Collection” below.

Maybe I’ll just save some money to finally buy the Japanese Jin-Roh Blu-ray Disc release…

Two Theatrical Films for Eden of the East

Unlike reported back in February, Kenji Kamiyama’s anime series Eden of the East (Higashi no Eden) will not get one, but two theatrical adaptations! This has been announced at the end of the last episode (#11 The East That Goes On) that aired on June 18th in Japan.

The first film, The King of Eden is supposed to open on November 28th, three days after the last DVD and Blu-ray Disc volume hits the Japanese stores while Paradise Lost will open in January 2010. While no other details have been announced, I guess these two films will be real sequels to the tv series and not just some kind of unnecessary compilations because the amazing last episode left so many open questions and incomplete plot strands, there just has to be a sequel! You hear me, Kenji!
And because I don’t want to be the only one who can’t get the opening song (Oasis – Falling Down) out of his head, here’s the amazingly well done opening (again):
