Princess Mononoke (Mononoke Hime) on Blu-ray Disc

I know this entry will make the AHT look like a Studio Ghibli fan blog even more than it already is, but I just had to report this: Disney Entertainment Japan announced to release Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpiece Princess Mononoke (Mononoke Hime) on Blu-ray Disc on December 4th!
As always, this Japanese release will fulfill almost all international desires in regards of audio tracks (Japanese, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Finnish, German, Korean, Cantonese) and subtitles (English, Japanese, French, German, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese).
The Cat Returns (Neko no Ongaeshi) will be released on the same day, also with several dub and subtitle tracks. However, it doesn’t feature any angry boar gods or headless giants, so I’m just getting it to keep the collection in shape… ^^

Hayao Miyazaki Marathon @ ARTE

Fans of Studio Ghibli’s very own Hayao Miyazaki that understand German or French should mark some dates for next month as ARTE has appointed April to a long overdue “Hayao Miyazaki Month”.

My Neigbour Totoro – April 8th 20:15; April 15th 14:45

Studio Ghibli HD/Blu-ray Disc Preview Screenshots

I just got my copy of the Japanese Joe Hisaishi in Budokan – Miyazaki Anime to Tomo ni Ayunda 25 Nenkan Blu-ray Disc that not only includes the incredible anniversary concert of Hayao Miyazaki’s favourite composer Joe Hisaishi but also a nice surprise for those of us who cry themselves to sleep every night because there’s still no Studio Ghibli film available on Blu-ray Disc.
The bonus feature consists of selection of music videos with scenes taken from some of Hayao Miyazaki’s masterworks (sadly not from Totoro, Laputa and Spirited Away) in HD quality! While these videos have been encoded in 1920×1080i and sometimes show compression artifacts and edge enhancement effects (especially Kiki), they are the closest thing to a Blu-ray Disc preview for Studio Ghibli films we currently have. So this is what we can at least expect quality wise for next year when the studio starts to release their catalog titles (Ponyo is supposed be the first in December).
Please note that the 100 (!) screenshots below (as always) contain spoilers and can’t show just how good these films look in motion, so do yourself a favour and buy the BD! ;)
