The official website for Musashi: The Dream of the Last Samurai, the animated biopic about the famous samurai Miyamoto Musashi directed by Mizuho Nishikubo and scripted/concepted by Mamoru Oshii has been given a facelift and is also showing a new trailer. I’m not sure about that CG scenes with the strange old sensei, do you guys think they will be left in the final film when it opens in Japan on June 13th?

Anime News Network is streaming a new, subtitled Trailer for Mamoru Oshii and Mizuho Nishikubo’s Miyamoto Musashi. While Oshii developed and wrote the script that tells us the life of the famous, real-life samurai Musashi, the movie is actually directed by Mizuho Nishikubo. Production I.G’s Musashi: The Dream of the Last Samurai will open in theaters across Japan in early summer 2009.

Production I.G hat die offizielle Website zur Animeverfilmung des legendären Samurai Miyamoto Musashi (AHT berichtete) mit einem ersten Teaser Trailer eröffnet. Dieser zeigt leider nur wenige animierte Sequenzen, aber ich denke da Ghost in the Shell Schöpfer Mamoru Oshii und Production I.G ihre Finger mit im Spiel haben, dürfen wir uns vor dem Kinostart im Sommer noch auf einiges mehr freuen.

Ghost in the Shell Schöpfer Mamoru Oshii hat bei den Dreharbeiten zu seinem Kurzfilmprojekt Kiru ~ KILL offenbar Blut geleckt und konzentriert sich auch bei seinem nächsten Werk auf das Thema Schwertkampf. Genauer gesagt auf das Leben des berühmten Samurai (und später Ronin) Miyamoto Musashi, welches er zusammen mit dem Studio Production I.G als Schreiberling produzieren will. Die eigentliche Regie des Miyamoto Musashi: Sōken ni Haseru Yume (Musashi Miyamoto: The Dream of Riding with Two Swords) getauften Films, der im Sommer 2009 durch Ponyo Canyon in die japanischen Kinos kommen soll, übernimmt Mizuho Nishikubo.
Der konnte schon bei der Serie Otogi Zoshi Erfahrungen in dem Genre sammeln und dürfte zusammen mit Oshii sicherlich was feines abliefern, zumal sich das Leben und Schaffen von Miyamoto Musashi, der neben dem Kampf mit gleich zwei Schwertern auch die Kunst der Malerei und der guten Schriften beherrschte, auch ohne den Oshii Bonus (gab es damals schon Dachshunde in Japan?) recht interessant zu erzählen sein dürfte. Einigen dürfte Musashi auch bereits aus der Samurai Trilogie (Samurai, Duel at Ichijoji Temple, Duel on Ganryu Island) bekannt sein, wo er von Toshiro Mifune verkörpert wurde.
