REDLINE ab Oktober in Deutschland auf DVD und Blu-ray Disc

This article is about the German DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of Takeshi Koike’s REDLINE Anime. Because it won’t include English subtitles or audio the full article is only available in German. Manga Entertainment UK will release two (Standard and Double Play) English friendly Blu-ray Disc versions on November 14th.

Da habe ich vor einiger Zeit so oft von Studio Madhouses Racing Anime Redline berichtet und dann vergesse ich doch glatt hier auch mal etwas über die kommende deutsche Veröffentlichung zu schreiben.
Kaze wird “das krasseste Rennen des Universums” ( ) von Regisseur Takeshi Koike nämlich am 28. Oktober hierzulande auf Blu-ray Disc (und DVD) auf den Markt bringen. Wie so oft stattet Kaze seine Veröffentlichungen europaweit gleich aus, weshalb die BD im Amaray neben dem japanischen Originalton auch eine deutsche, französische und italienische Tonspur enthält. Für Leseratten gibt es Untertitel auf Deutsch, Französisch, Niederländisch, Italienisch und Polnisch.
Wer eine schönere Verpackung möchte, muss entweder bis zum November auf die UK Double Play Veröffentlichung von Manga Entertainment warten oder tiefer in der Tasche grabebn und zur englisch untertitelten japanischen Limited Edition greifen. Die liegt übrigens seit ca. einer Woche aufgrund akutem Zeitmangel und noch nicht aufgebauter Heimkinoanlage noch jungfräulich verpackt irgendwo in meiner neuen Wohnung herum…

REDLINE: English-friendly Japan DVD & Blu-ray Disc in August

Fans of high octane racing rejoice! TC Entertainment announced to release Takeshi Koike’s Studio Madhouse racing anime REDLINE on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in Japan with English subtitles on August 10th.
Both versions will be available in a regular and Collector’s edition. While the regular editions come in a standard amaray package, the more expensive editions will be packed in a digibook plus sleeve with a bonus SD DVD with several extra material and a never released bonus film (without English subtitles).

Those of you who don’t want to pay the premium Japanese prices just have to wait until September 12th when Manga Entertainment UK plans to release the film on DVD and Blu-ray Disc. US releases have also been announced, but so far without a proper release date.

FUNimation’s Theatrical Trailer for Summer Wars

FUNimation posted the dubbed theatrical trailer for Mamoru Hosoda und Satoko Okudera’s Summer Wars on their YouTube channel. The film will get a limited theatrical release in December and will also be available on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in Spring 2011.

Director Satoshi Kon Passes Away

I’m really no fan of public mourning for “celebrities”, but the news of director Satoshi Kon passing away at the age of only 46 really ruined yesterday evening.
In my eyes, Kon was one of the most creative directors in the world of animation and will be sorely missed as he was preparing some very promising projects to add to his portfolio of masterworks. Thanks for showing us your dreams!

During San Diego Comic Con, Marvel released a new trailer for the upcoming Iron Man anime series produced by animation studio Madhouse. Looks like Madhouse is now using rendered CG frames for the Iron Man suit itself while the first teaser released one year ago still showed some nice traditional animated footage.

First trailer for the third season of the Black Lagoon anime from Studio Madhouse. It mainly consists of footage from the first two seasons and only shows a few new shots but kicks ass anyway! The trailer (like almost anything I wrote about last week) premiered on TAF 2010 and has been available on YouTube a few days now, but I wanted to show you a “clean” version without any j-pop or panting otaku in the background…

The first OVA of the third season will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in Japan on July 17th from Geneon Entertainment.

During this year’s Tokyo International Anime Fair 2010, a first teaser trailer for the anime adaptation of Daisuke Sato’s Highschool of the Dead (Gakuen Mokushiroku 学園黙示録) was shown and thanks to a friendly camera-wielding visitor, we’re also able to take a first look at the boobs, guns, gore, swords and zombie mash-up Studio Madhouse is currently preparing for us.

Revy is back! Black Lagoon Season 3 in July!

As already reported last year, the third season of the anime adaptation of Rei Hiroe’s Black Lagoon will not be adapted into another TV season but rather OVA episodes by Studio Madhouse and director Sunao Katabuchi. Now it has been announced that the first of five volumes of Roberta’s Blood Trail will be released in Japan on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in Japan on July 17th…most probably without English subitles like Geneon Entertainment’s recent Japanese Blu-ray Disc releases of the first two seasons.

Summer Wars and The Space Show at the Berlinale

While most of us will have to wait some time until we’ll get to see an understandable release of Summer Wars (since the Japanese DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases in March won’t have English subtitles), our lucky friends in Berlin will soon have the chance to see the film on the big screen. During the 60th Berlinale (February 11 to 21), Mamoru Hosoda und Satoko Okudera’s anime adventure will be screened as part of the Generation 14plus program.
Welcome to the Space Show (Uchū Show e Yōkoso, 宇宙ショーへようこそ) from director Koji Masunari (Read or Die, Kamichu!) will also be screened during the festival. Judging from to the synopsis at ANN and the few artworks from the Japanese website it could be the younger theatrical brother of Summer Wars…

Great, just great. AV Watch reports that VAP will release Mamoru Hosoda und Satoko Okudera’s award-winning and highly awaited anime Summer Wars on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in Japan on March 3, 2010. Just as expected, the article does not mention English subtitles for these releases and judging from VAP’s Blu-ray Disc release history so far I don’t think they will suddenly be added after all
But since the Warner Bros. logo appeared in most of the trailers released for the film so far, I still hope that the brothers will do their best to bring the film to the West with understandable subtitles soon enough…

Synopsis via ANN:

The story is set in Makka, a town surrounded by quicksand. With rumors spreading that the legendary robber Gasback has his sights set on the town, the mayor Kepler has brought together bounty hunters to protect the town. These bounty hunters have been following Gasback from town to town in hopes of bagging the prize. Meryl and Milly, two characters previously seen in Yasuhiro Nightow’s manga and the later television anime series, have come to town to assess the situation as insurance agents, but are shocked by this turn of events. Moreover, Vash the Stampede is also in town, along with the female bounty hunter Ameria and the fan-favorite character Wolfwood.

Studio Madhouse has release the first images from director Satoshi Kon’s (Perfect Blue, Paprika, Tokyo Godfather) retro-styled sci-fi anime Yume Miru Kikai.

More background and character artwork are available at the Japanese website for the project that has been announced during Tokyo International Anime Fair 2008. So far no story details or release dates have been announced.

Summer Wars: Nine Minutes Clip and Music Video

After the first five minutes of Mamoru Hosoda and Satoko Okudera’s Summer Wars have already been posted back in July, four more minutes have appeared online and show us some more beside the visitor’s tour to the virtual world of OZ.
Sadly no English subtitles are available…

…except in the music video for the song “The World of OZ” performed by the South-Korean band Clazziquai, even though they sing perfectly understandable English.

There’s a German review available over at Outnow.ch that criticizes the lack of character development and story depth (as expected) but praises the incredible power and weirdness of the racing scenes, so I’m still excited to see Redline on home video soon.

Summers Wars: Virtual Five Minutes Tour through OZ

Still feeling lost in the virtual world of OZ in Mamoru Hosoda and Satoko Okudera’s Summer Wars?
Fear not, as the Japanese marketing machine has brought us an almost five minutes long tour or rather tutorial just a few days before the theatrical opening on August 1st. If you listen closely, you can even hear the original English (I guess OZ is pretty international) narrator over the Japanese voice over. The clip also shows a few new scenes from the “real” world, but nothing too spectacular.

First Trailer for Wolverine and Iron Man Anime from Studio Madhouse

Holy Shamori! During Comic Con (where else), Marvel presented first footage of their cooperation (announced back in August for Spring 2010) with the Japanese animation studio Madhouse. And boy, do these trailers for the Japanese interpretation of Wolverine and Iron Man rock! Especially when you compare these to the disappointing trailer for Halo Legends that Microsoft released yesterday.
Feel free to skip the first 40 seconds as they only show logos, but after that…let’s just say that hardcore Wolverine fans will find many reasons to be pissed

Summer Wars: “Virtual World” Clip/Music Video

The Japanese retail chain Tsutaya has been giving out promotion DVDs to their customers that contain the first nine minutes from Mamoru Hosoda and Satoko Okudera’s upcoming anime Summer Wars.
While this video sadly hasn’t found it’s way online yet, this two minute clip or rather music video has and it shows use some more footage of the strange virtual world OZ.

Black Lagoon is coming to Blu-ray Disc! [Blu Lagoon]

Quasi as the thematic combination of my last two entries, here’s the good news that Geneon Japan will release the first two seasons (Black Lagoon & The Second Barrage) of Black Lagoon on Blu-ray Disc! The GX News report doesn’t mention a release date but I guess Geneon will wait until the announced new OVA hits the market to get the old and hopefully lured in new fans.
I’m just curious to see if and by how much these Blu-ray Discs can top the already pretty damn good DVD releases from Geneon USA.

Black Lagoon Season 3 to be OVA in 2010

ANN has posted some new information on the third season of the Black Lagoon anime series that has been planned for some time now. According to the report, the stories from Rei Hiroe’s manga will not be adapted into another TV season but rather an OVA project in 2010.
Studio Madhouse’s director Sunao Katabuchi will helm the project and it’s been announced that Revy’s seiyuu Megumi Toyoguchi will lend her voice to our favourite female pirate again.
