Nippon Cinema reports that Third Window Films will release its first Blu-ray Disc in February 2010 and that the British independent label has chosen Tetsuya Nakashima’s 2004 GothiklolitaBikergirlComedyDramaThingy Kamikaze Girls starring Kyoko Fukada and Anna Tsuchiya as the first high definition title.
Planned release date is February 8, 2010, the Blu-ray Disc will include the original Japanese audio and English subtitles. Features are tba, but I guess TWF has lots of extra material since Kamikaze Girls will be released as a two disc special edition on the same day. According to Kevin, the BD will be Region B locked.

btw, a representative of Third Window Films has left a statement regard a Blu-ray Disc release of Sion Sono’s Love Exposure in the Twitch comment section stating that they acquired the Blu-ray discs rights but are worried if such a release will pay off because of the market situation…
However, Love Exposure will be released on DVD in the UK on January 11, 2010.

On this years New York Asian Film Festival, director Sion Sono presented his four hour epic Love Exposure and after that offered himself for an Q&A session with the audience.
Luckily for us, the New York Japan Society captured the session and uploaded it on their Youtube Channel.

Just like promised the day before yesterday, the full program with (so far?) 38 titles for the 10. Japanese Film Festival Hamburg is now available online. The JFFH will take place from May 27 to May 31.

From April 15th to 19th, Frankfurt transforms into the center of the Japanese film world when the Nippon Connection 2009 opens its doors once again. After giving us a first look at the highlights of the largest festival for Japanese film worldwide, the official site has now been updated with the full program that includes more than 150 feature and short films.

Looks like the ‘big’ German niche labels had some money to spend on the European Film Market that took place during this years Berlinale. KSM, Ascot Elite, Rapid Eye Movies and Splendid Film acquired the German distribution rights to some mighty fine films from all across Asia that should see domestic DVD/Blu-ray Disc or maybe even cinematical releases this year.
KSM: Dante Lam’s The Sniper with Edison Chen.
Ascot Elite: Korean wild boar-horror Chaw.
Rapid Eye Movies: Sion Sono’s Love Exposure, a four hour long epic about a pantyshot taking son of a preacher man.
Splendid Films: Korean drama A Frozen Flower, the pirate fantasy Queens of Langkasuka from Thailand and Kazuaki Kiriya’s eyecandy Goemon.

Love Exposure ist der neuste Film von Regisseur Sion Sono, der einigen durch Suicide Club und dem Haarverlängerungshorror Exte bekannt sein dürfte.
Genervt von seinen tiefreligiösen Eltern und besonders seinem Vater, dem er regelmäßig seine Sünden beichten muss, beginnt der junge Yu (Takahiro Nishijima) zu rebellieren und entschließt sich dazu, ein Großmeister im möglichst kreativen Fotografieren der Unterwäsche unachtsamer Mädels zu werden. Bei einer seiner Panty Shot Touren verliebt er sich in die schlagfertige Yoko, ohne jedoch zu ahnen daß sie sein christliches Wertebild durch die Mitgliedschaft in einer seltsamen Sekte in den Grundfesten erschüttern wird.

Twitch gibt die Laufzeit auf dem Tokyo Filmex Festival mit 237 Minuten an, mal schauen wie die mit akrobatischen Fotografieraktionen und Schulmädchenschmuddel gefüllt werden.
