News Roundup 16/2010 (Ip Man 2, Shooting Hobo, Live-Action Beck, JFFH, Casshern and Goemon UK BD)

Some things that popped up during last week and would have gotten their own entries if I weren’t such a real-life loving slack…

(Almost) Ten Minutes from Wilson Yip’s Ip Man 2
Watch Donnie Yen kick some ass (including Sammo Hung’s)…or skip it, if you don’t want to spoil the (probably) best scenes of the film.

Promo Footage/Trailer for Hobo with a Shotgun
Another one of those fake trailer thingies that gets turned into “full” movies and even feature a known name with Rutger Hauer.

Second Teaser for Live-Action Beck

UK Blu-ray Disc releases of Goemon and Casshern announced
Good news for those who cursed their lack of German tongue after Splendid Entertainment announced their German Blu-ray Disc release of Kazuaki Kiriya’s Casshern and Goemon. Momentum UK will bring both films in an English friendly version to Blu-ray Disc. Goemon will be released in July while Casshern doesn’t have a date yet.

Splendid brings Casshern and Goemon to Blu-ray Disc

Good news for fans of Kazuaki Kiriya. German distributor Splendid Film announced to release all films (yes, that’s two) from the Japanese director on Blu-ray Disc in Germany on May 28, 2010. While Kiriya’s 2004 debut Casshern will only come in a standard amaray, Splendid will release Goemon in a limited edition steelbook (without those garsty rating logo on the front) as well. All releases will include the original Japanese audio track, but as expected from Splendid, Casshern will only include German subtitles while Goemon is supposed to also have Dutch subtitle options.
So far there are no English subtitled Blu-ray Disc releases of these films available. Casshern has been released in Italy in 2008 and Goemon has already plundered Japan and France.

Goemon: Japanese DVD and Blu-ray Disc in October

AV Watch reports today that Warner Home Entertainment Japan will release Kazuaki Kiriya’s CG overkill Goemon on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on October 9th 2009. Both releases will be available in a standard edition with one DVD/BD and a limited “Ultimate Box” that includes an bonus DVD/BD and a storyboard artbook in a nice golden box.

There’s no word of English subtitles and I wouldn’t hold my breath that they’ll be included. At least the German and French fans of Goemon can look forward as Splendid Film acquired the distribution rights for Germany during the European Film Market in February while TF1 Video will release Goemon on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in November. I guess Warner will take care of the rest of the world themselves, let’s hope this won’t take too long.

Sweet eyecandy for Kazuaki Kiriya’s Goemon! The folks over at Japon : de l’art et du cochon got their hands on a promotion DVD for the film that opens in Japan May 1st.
They were even nice enough to post 32 screenshots from the included 10 minutes clip show. Sadly the resolution of the shots has been reduced but beggar can’t be choosers…at least until a Blu-ray disc release gets announced.

European Film Market: Asian shopping frenzy

Looks like the ‘big’ German niche labels had some money to spend on the European Film Market that took place during this years Berlinale. KSM, Ascot Elite, Rapid Eye Movies and Splendid Film acquired the German distribution rights to some mighty fine films from all across Asia that should see domestic DVD/Blu-ray Disc or maybe even cinematical releases this year.
KSM: Dante Lam’s The Sniper with Edison Chen.
Ascot Elite: Korean wild boar-horror Chaw.
Rapid Eye Movies: Sion Sono’s Love Exposure, a four hour long epic about a pantyshot taking son of a preacher man.
Splendid Films: Korean drama A Frozen Flower, the pirate fantasy Queens of Langkasuka from Thailand and Kazuaki Kiriya’s eyecandy Goemon.

Goemon: Neuer Streifen vom Casshern Regisseur
