Sweet Animated Mindfuck! German independent distributor Rapid Eye Movies has announced to finally release the short film omnibus Genius Party on DVD in Germany on July 17!
The collection includes seven short films from directors Atsuko Fukushima (Genius Party), Shoji Kawamori (Shanghai Dragon), Shinji Kimura (Deathic 4), Yuji Fukuyama (Doorbell), Hideki Futamura (Limit Cycle), Masaaki Yuasa (Happy Machine) and Shinichiro Watanabe (Baby Blue) united under the roof of Studio 4°C (Tekkonkinkreet) for the project.
The DVD will be released in a limited edition digipack packed in a slipcase and will include the original Japanese track and the German dub in 5.1 Dolby Surround. Sadly there will only be German subtitles, so (still) no luck for you German-impaired folks. Extras will include 30 more minutes of short films (maybe a preview of Genius Party Beyond?) and a some postcards.
Genius Party and its sequel Genius Party Beyond will be running on next week’s Japanese Film Festival in Hamburg. To wet your appetite (or rather increase your agony) here’s the eponymous episode by Atsuko Fukushima:

Just like promised the day before yesterday, the full program with (so far?) 38 titles for the 10. Japanese Film Festival Hamburg is now available online. The JFFH will take place from May 27 to May 31.

From April 15th to 19th, Frankfurt transforms into the center of the Japanese film world when the Nippon Connection 2009 opens its doors once again. After giving us a first look at the highlights of the largest festival for Japanese film worldwide, the official site has now been updated with the full program that includes more than 150 feature and short films.

Fetch your reading glasses, kids! The Japanese limited edition of Studio 4°C’s anime omnibus Genius Party Beyond includes not one, but two storyboard books (one for Genius Party and once for Genius Party Beyond) with almost 600 pages per piece and a 120 page interview booklet named “Project Genius – The Making Book”. Also included in the box are three DVDs with the 82 minutes long main features, a making of and 100 minutes of interviews with the directors. As usually, English subtitles won’t be included when this babe hits the Japanese shelves on March 20th, 2009.

Das Team des nach eigenen Angaben größten Festivals für das japanische Kiino hat erste Highlights für die diesjährige Nippon Connection bekannt gegeben. So wird es vom 15. bis 19. April 2009 in Frankfurt am Main unter anderem Tokyo Sonata von Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Non-Ko von Kazuyoshi Kumakiri und Nightmare Detective 2 von Shinya Tsukamoto zu sehen geben. Animefreunde dürfen sich über die beiden Studio 4°C Compilations Genius Party und Genius Party Beyond freuen und sich meines Neides bewußt sein.
Weitere Details und Programmpunkte dürften in den nächsten Tagen veröffentlich werden, bekannt ist jedoch daß es wieder ein breit gestreutes Rahmenprogramm sowie ein Festival on Tour mit Vorstellungen unter anderem in München, New York und Barcelona.
Wer es lieber etwas nördlicher hat kann sich übrigens schon auf den Sommerbeginn freuen, vom 27. bis 31. Mai 2009 feiert nämlich das Japanische(s) Filmfest Hamburg sein zehntes Jubiläum.

In dem Musikvideo von Tamurapan, dem Soloprojekt der J-Popsängerin Tamura Ayumi, werden viele neue Szenen aus dem Genius Party Beyond Animeomnibus von Studio 4°C präsentiert. Der Song heißt Zero und wird im Abspann des Morgen in den japanischen Kinos anlaufenden Brainfucks Werks gespielt.

Die Kreativen bei Studio 4°C (Tekkonkinkreet, Mind Game, Amazing Nuts!) drehen mal wieder frei und präsentieren mit Genius Party Beyond der zweiten Teil ihres Genius Party Projekts. Beyond besteht aus fünf Teilen, die von den Regisseuren Koji Morimoto (Dimension Bomb), Mahiro Maeda (Gala), Tatsuyuki Tanaka (Tojin Kit), Shinya Ohira (Wanwa the Puppy) sowie Kazuto Nakazawa (Moondrive) angefertigt wurden. Mon amis von Catsuka haben den Trailer netterweise auf Dailymotion geschaufelt:

Den ersten Teil der Kurzfilmsammlung gibt es ab Juli käuflich zu erwerben, wann und wie Beyond erhältlich sein wird ist leider noch nicht bekannt.
