Once again new material for First Squad: The Moment of Truth has popped up in the AnimeSuki forum. This time it’s a three minutes long clip that shows the memories of the paranormal gifted child-soldier Nadya of her life before the war.
I decided to skip the first minute of interviews with Russian experts in the video below because you can’t full read the English subtitles.

Poster and Date for First Squad: The Moment of Truth

Somebody in the AnimeSuki Forum has posted the first poster artwork for the occult WW2 anime First Squad: The Moment Of Truth from Studio 4°C and Molot Entertainment.
It has also been announced that the 73 minutes long Russian/Japanese/Canadian co-production will screen during the 31. Moscow International Film Festival late June and will finally be released on October 15th. However, the how and where of this release is still unknown. It has been reported that First Squad was presented on last month’s Cannes festival but I haven’t heard anything new from there either.

New Trailer, Synopsis and Date for Studio 4°C WW2 Anime First Squad

It’s been a while since I last reported on Studio 4°C’s “World War II meets the occult” anime project First Squad, mainly because there was just nothing new to report even though I was eying the official website like a ~~hungry wolf~~ horny monkey.
Now Twitch’s very own Todd reports that First Squad will be screened during Cannes Marché du Film from May 13, 2009 and even got a new trailer featuring all new scenes plus a full synopsis for us to enjoy.

It is 1942. The Red Army is putting up a violent and effective resistance against the German invaders. 14 year-old Nadya is a medium. In a deadly air raid the girl is shell-shocked. Recovering from her concussion, Nadya discovers her new gift – the ability to foresee the “Moments of Truth” – the most critical moments of future combat encounters, in which one person’s actions will decide the outcome one way or the other.

Nadya’s ability is indispensable for the classified 6th Division of the Russian Military Intelligence, which is waging a secret war against the “Ahnenerbe” – an occult order within the SS. The Ahnenerbe summons from the realm of the dead the powerful prince of darkness, Baron von Wolff. With him on their side they hope to change the course of history and achieve world domination. To oppose the Baron Nadya decides to enlist the support of her old friends from the beyond – the Pioneers of the First Squad.

First Squad: World War II Anime von Studio 4°C

Ganz feines Futter habe ich da im AnimeSuki Forum entdecken können. Studio 4°C arbeitet zusammen mit Molot Entertainment aktuell an einem Anime über den zweiten Weltkrieg mit dem passenden Namen First Squad. Typischerweise werden allerdings nicht historisch korrekte Schlachten gezeigt, sondern die Geschichte der russischen Spezialeinheit First Squad erzählt, die fünf mit paranormalen Fähigkeiten (und Katanas) ausgestattete Jugendliche zum Kampf gegen die anrückende deutsche Armee einsetzt. Die war allerdings auch nicht untätigt im okulten Forschungsbereich und hat mit dem Projekt Ahnenorden ebenfalls einge speziell ausgebildete Soldaten sowie Ritter des Ordens des Heiligen Schwertes in ihren Reihen. Auf der erfreulicherweise in Japanisch, Englisch und Russisch verfügbaren Website gibt es reichlich Informationen, Hintergrundbilder und Produktionszeichnungen zum 2009 kommenden OAV sowie einen ersten Trailer.

Da First Squad offenbar schon seit ein paar Monden durch die 4°C Studios geistert, gibt es auf YouTube auch ein bereits über zwei Jahre altes Promo/Musicvideo zu bewundern.
