The Nippon Connection team issued a press release announcing the date for the 12th Japanese Film Festival in Frankfurt, Germany:

Der Termin für das 12. Japanische Filmfestival Nippon Connection in Frankfurt am Main steht fest. Vom 2. bis 6. Mai 2012 werden beim weltweit größten Festival für japanisches Kino wieder über 100 aktuelle japanische Filme sowie ein umfangreiches Kulturprogramm von Tradition bis Moderne präsentiert. Zahlreiche Filmemacher und Künstler aus Japan werden dabei ihre Werke in Frankfurt persönlich vorstellen.

Zum dritten Mal wird beim 12. Nippon Connection Festival von einer internationalen Jury der Nippon Visions Award verliehen: Der Regisseur des besten Nachwuchsfilms erhält von der Japan Visualmedia Translation Academy eine kostenlose Untertitelung seines nächsten Filmprojekts. In der Sektion Nippon Cinema kann das Publikum wieder seinen Lieblingsfilm auswählen, dieser erhält den mit 2.000 Euro dotierten Nippon Cinema Award, der zum achten Mal vom Bankhaus Metzler gestiftet wird.

Ein Schwerpunktthema des 12. Nippon Connection Festivals wird die Dreifachkatastrophe vom 11. März 2011 sein. Zahlreiche Filmemacher und Künstler setzen sich bereits mit dem Trauma und seinen Folgen auseinander. Neben einem Filmspecial wird es beim Festival eine Fotoausstellung, Podiumsdiskussion und Vorträge zu dem Thema geben.

Für alle denen der Weg nach Frankfurt zur Nippon Connection zu weit war und/oder die einfach nicht genug vom japanischen Kino bekommen können, gibt es auch in diesem Jahr wieder das passende Filmfest im Norden.
Vom 25. bis 29. Mai findet in der schönsten Hansestadt nämlich zum zwölften mal das Japan Filmfest Hamburg (JFFH) statt und bietet dem interessierten Zuschauer unter den Stichworten Naginata, Noh, Rakugo, Osaka und Anime ein buntes Potpourri (das wollte ich schon immer mal schreiben) an japanischer Filmkunst. Der Timetable mit sämtlichen Titeln (unter anderem Arrietty, 13 Assassins, Gantz, Planzet…) ist erfreulicherweise schon online einsehbar.

The team of Nippon Connection has announced the full program for the 11th edition of the Japanese film festival. Despite the current events in Japan, the festival will take place in Frankfurt from April 27th to Mai 1st.
Currently the program isn’t available on the festival’s website, so read on for a quick peek taken from the press release.

UK Blu-ray Disc releases of Goemon and Casshern announced
Good news for those who cursed their lack of German tongue after Splendid Entertainment announced their German Blu-ray Disc release of Kazuaki Kiriya’s Casshern and Goemon. Momentum UK will bring both films in an English friendly version to Blu-ray Disc. Goemon will be released in July while Casshern doesn’t have a date yet.

While most of us will have to wait some time until we’ll get to see an understandable release of Summer Wars (since the Japanese DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases in March won’t have English subtitles), our lucky friends in Berlin will soon have the chance to see the film on the big screen. During the 60th Berlinale (February 11 to 21), Mamoru Hosoda und Satoko Okudera’s anime adventure will be screened as part of the Generation 14plus program.
Welcome to the Space Show (Uchū Show e Yōkoso, 宇宙ショーへようこそ) from director Koji Masunari (Read or Die, Kamichu!) will also be screened during the festival. Judging from to the synopsis at ANN and the few artworks from the Japanese website it could be the younger theatrical brother of Summer Wars…

Festival director Manuel Ewald kindly informed me that the full program and timetable for this year’s Asia Filmfest that takes place in Munich from October 29th to November 8th and with a smaller selection in Berlin from November 13th to November 15th are now available online.
