FUNimation Entertainment Acquires Eden of the East Movies

Yesterday FUNimation Entertainment announced that it has acquired the US distribution rights for the three Eden of the East movies from GitS: Stand Alone Complex director Kenji Kamiyama. The King of Eden and Paradise Lost, the two sequels to Production I.G’s original eleven episodes long series and the compilation movie Air Communication are supposed to be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in 2011. The rights for the series have been acquired by FUNimation some time ago and a home video release has been mentioned in the insert included in the Evangelion 1.11 Blu-ray Disc package.
The King of Eden and Air Communication are already available on Blu-ray Disc in Japan since March 24th but unfortunately Kadokawa forgot to include English subtitles.

Upcoming Blu-ray Discs from FUNimation in 2010

Speaking of FUNimation and Blu-ray Disc, here’s a scan of the insert that was included in the Evangelion 1.11 BD Special Edition. It promises some very interesting high definition (or probably just upscaled) releases of anime series like Eden of the East, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Casshern Sins for 2010 and beyond.

The King will return in March! Eden of the East Movie: The King of Eden on Blu-ray Disc

Kadokawa has announced the release The King of Eden, the first two theatrical sequels to the Eden of the East TV series on Blu-ray Disc in Japan on March 24, 2010. The King of Eden [Trailer] was released in Japanese theaters on December 16, 2009 and is set half a year past the incidents described in director Kenji Kamiyama’s (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) amazing 2009 series. The Blu-ray Disc will be available in two editions, the standard edition will only include the movie while the limited release will also feature Air Communication, the over two hour long compilation of the series.
Sadly there are no English subtitles listed for both releases. FUNimation acquired the rights for the series last year but hasn’t made any announcements about upcoming DVD or Blu-ray Disc releases yet…

All Hail the King of Eden! First Trailer for Eden of the East theatrical Films

Production I.G has released a first teaser trailer for the two theatrical sequels to Kenji Kamiyama’s Eden of the East TV series. It doesn’t show much, so there’s no need to worry if you haven’t seen the series yet. The first film, The King of Eden, will open in Japan on December 12th followed by Paradise Lost on January 9th.
FUNimation licensed Ede of the East for the NA market, but hasn’t mentioned any release date and if they also acquired the rights for the films as well.

Kenji Kamiyama announces Eden of the East: Air Communication Compilation Movie

All Hail to the new King! ANN reports that Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex director Kenji Kamiyama will personally re-edit the eleven aired episodes of Eden of the East into a compilation movie called Air Communication that will open in selected Japanese theaters on September 26. Normally this would be really good or newsworthy event, but the existence of this compilation movie implies (at least in my eyes) that the already announced Eden of the East films The King of Eden (opens November 28th) and Paradise Lost (January 9th) will continue the story of the TV series!

Two Theatrical Films for Eden of the East

Unlike reported back in February, Kenji Kamiyama’s anime series Eden of the East (Higashi no Eden) will not get one, but two theatrical adaptations! This has been announced at the end of the last episode (#11 The East That Goes On) that aired on June 18th in Japan.

The first film, The King of Eden is supposed to open on November 28th, three days after the last DVD and Blu-ray Disc volume hits the Japanese stores while Paradise Lost will open in January 2010. While no other details have been announced, I guess these two films will be real sequels to the tv series and not just some kind of unnecessary compilations because the amazing last episode left so many open questions and incomplete plot strands, there just has to be a sequel! You hear me, Kenji!
And because I don’t want to be the only one who can’t get the opening song (Oasis – Falling Down) out of his head, here’s the amazingly well done opening (again):
