Godkiller: Walk Among Us Complete Trailer

I’ve been reporting about the individual releases and episodes of Godkiller: Walk Among Us, the ‘illustrated film’ based on the comic from Matt Pizzolo and Anna Muckcracker for quite some time now. Now Halo-8 Entertainment has released a first trailer for the complete film that consists of all three episodes and will premiere during the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) on April 16th. If you can’t make it to Chicago, you’ll have to wait until May 25th when it will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.

Synopsis:

Godkiller: Walk Among Us is the story of a boy on a quest to save his dying sister. It takes place in a dark future after economic collapse, after nuclear holy war, and after Earth is colonized by alien races. Tommy and his kid sister Lucy live in an orphanage in one of the few remaining city-states, but Lucy is critically ill and desperately in need of a new heart. Tommy’s odyssey to find a new heart for his sister begins when he follows an organ-stealing prostitute named Halfpipe out of the city-state and into the savage borderland known as Outer City.

More Asuka! Details for Evangelion 2.22 Announced

King Records announced some details for their upcoming (May 26th) Japanese DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance on their TAF2010 booth.
Just like with the first part of the Rebuild of Evangelion series, Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone, Gainax will include several adjustments/improvements and new scenes to upgrade the theatrical 2.0 version to the 2.22 home video version. Thanks to some more scenes featuring hot-headed Asuka and EVA Unit 03, the run time will grow from 108 minutes to 111 minutes and 49 seconds.
Other than the usual bonus material (AR script and promotion material like teasers, trailers and TV spots), the limited first press editions of the DVD and Blu-ray Disc will include a deluxe booklet and a film strip, but no English subtitles.
While Evangelion 2.0 is supposed to be released in Germany on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on July 16th, FUNimation hasn’t announced anything regarding their plans to bring it to the US yet.

Revy is back! Black Lagoon Season 3 in July!

As already reported last year, the third season of the anime adaptation of Rei Hiroe’s Black Lagoon will not be adapted into another TV season but rather OVA episodes by Studio Madhouse and director Sunao Katabuchi. Now it has been announced that the first of five volumes of Roberta’s Blood Trail will be released in Japan on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in Japan on July 17th…most probably without English subitles like Geneon Entertainment’s recent Japanese Blu-ray Disc releases of the first two seasons.

FUNimation to edit Dance in the Vampire Bund for the US Market

FUNimation announced in the comment section of their official blog that they will edit the episodes of Dance in the Vampire Bund for the US market. This includes the already streaming episodes and will also apply to further home video releases:

FUNimation Entertainment is known for releasing the titles we license in their original, uncut form, as their creators intended. However, after viewing the unedited as well as the Japanese broadcast edit of the series Dance in the Vampire Bund, we have determined the series contains controversial elements which, when taken out of context, could be objectionable to some audiences.

With this in mind and with approval of the licensor, we will edit select scenes from the series in streaming and home entertainment release. These are scenes which are inappropriate for U.S. viewing and are not essential to the storyline.

Dance in the Vampire Bund is a complex and dark drama cited by press and fans as one of the best anime series out of Japan this season. Its strong story is what brought the series to our attention and why we are bringing it to the U.S.

While I’m no fan of underage lolita-vampires (let alone lolitas) and didn’t know much about the series other than the cover artwork I contributed to the Asian Blu-ray Guide, I don’t quite get FUNimation’s decision.
Shouldn’t you get some background information on the series you’re going to release (probably to jump on the vampire bandwagon Twilight started) as one of (if not the) biggest distributor for Anime in the US? A look at the cover artworks for the original manga that’s being released in the US since 2008 should be enough to get an idea about the series.
And we shouldn’t forget that in the past FUNimation, was the label that started a “Babes, Blades, Blood & Beauty” campaign for certain series and used to plaster huge Uncut & Uncensored!!! marks on their releases if the series contained some adult scenes or some bigger flesh wounds…
