And another quick home video release of a Hong Kong titles that just opened in Asian cinemas last month. According to YesAsia, Daniel Lee’s 14 Blades starring Donnie Yen, Sammo Hung and Vicky Zhao will be released in Hong Kong on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on April 14th. Coming from Universe Laser, both releases will include English subtitles but people outside of Region A will have to wait for a confirmation if the Blu-ray Disc will be region locked (like Universe’s last release, The Storm Warriors) or not.

The video quality for this new teaser trailer for Daniel Lee’s 14 Blades is just as bad as with the first promotion clip shown in Cannes back in May, but at least we finally see some real Donnie Yen action instead of just concept artwork.

Synopsis:

During the Ming Dynasty, the Emperor of China possessed one weapon greater than all others, the Jinyiwei, an elite force of assassins recruited from street orphans. Trained in clandestine combat from childhood, the Jinyiwei were masters of the 14 Blades, eight being for torture, five for killing, and the last blade being reserved for suicide when a mission failed. Above the law, with a license to kill, the Jinyiwei devoted their lives and lethal prowess to the service of the Emperor alone.
When the Imperial Court is taken over by evil eunuch JIA, the best of the Jinyiwei, QUINGLONG and XUANWU, are assigned to steal a list identifying those still loyal to the Emperor. However unbeknownst to Quinglong, the Jinyiwei have fallen under the control of Jia, and during the mission Quinglong is betrayed by Xuanwu and barely escapes with his life. Now as the most wanted man in the land Quinglong must seek out and rally the loyalists to rise against Jia and restore the Emperor to power. In his way are the deadliest assassins in the land, his former brethren, the Jinyiwei.

14 Blades is supposed to open in January 2010.

A first promotional teaser for Daniel Lee’s Wuxia adventure 14 Blades starring Donnie Yen was shown during the Cannes film festival and found it’s way into the net. The quality isn’t great and the narrator’s distorted voice in the show booth kinda reminds me of a ride in a cheap ghost train, but I guess it’s better than nothing.

Noch ein neuer Trailer zu Three Kingdoms: Ressurection of the Dragon, das dürfte inzwischen der dritte sein den ich zu Daniel Lees Historienverfilmung hier präsentiere. Bin ich eigentlich der einzige der findet, daß die chinesischen Filmemacher den Hostingplattformen ruhig mal ein paar Yuan mehr zustecken könnten, damit ihre Filmtrailer in passabler Qualität angeboten werden? Zumindest scheint aber genug Kohle in die Kostümausstattung geflossen zu sein, auch wenn manche Requisiten fast schon zu gut und detailiert für die Zeitepoche aussehen.

Längere Zeit war es still geworden um Daniel Lees Verfilmung des chinesischen Historienwerks Romance of Three Kingdoms, wahrscheinlich hatte man befürchtet neben den epochalen Erzählungen aus Chinas Gründungsgeschichte etwas unter zu gehen. Wobei man sich bei einem Cast mit Andy Lau, Sammo Hung und Maggie Q eigentlich nicht verstecken bräuchte. Kinostart von Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon ist April 2008, bis dahin kann man sich erstmal am frisch von Yahoo! Taiwan veröffentlichten Trailer erfreuen.
