FUNimation announces first Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Blu-ray Disc and DVD release

Keen-eyed Anime on DVD user WTK has spotted the announcement for FUNimation’s first (physical) release of the new Fullmetal Alchemist series, FMA: Brotherhood. According to the text that appears next to the streaming episodes on YouTube, the first DVD and Blu-ray Disc (or “Blue-ray” as FUNimation calls it…) will be released in the USA on April 20, 2010. I just hope that this release will include more than just two episodes like their Japanese counterparts.
There hasn’t been any announcement for Europe so far and since FUNimation tends to lock their Blu-ray Disc releases to Region A (except their Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa release that is Region A and B), most of us will probably have to wait a bit longer till we can see the Elric brothers in high definition…

Halo Legends is coming to DVD and Blu-ray Disc in February 2010

I’m not really interested in the Halo Legends anime project after seeing the Babysitter preview clip, but judging from the amount of comments in the few entries on this topic I think some of you might be interested that Warner Home Entertainment has announced to release Halo Legends on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in the states on February 9, 2010. The DVD version will be available as a singe-disc edition and a two-disc special edition with some more bonus material. The Blu-ray Disc edition will include all the extras of the DVD special edition and an exclusive “Halo: The Story so Far” feature.

Halo Legends: First Trailer & Mamoru Oshii

Just like promised yesterday, Microsoft screened the first trailer for their Halo Legends project on Comic Con. Can’t say I’m really impressed with the mostly generic scenes they decided to show, especially since most of the scenes are somehow warped as they are “projected” against the Halo logo.
Anime News Network reports that Mamoru Oshii has directed one of the episodes (the first one to be exact) which gives me a bit of hope that this won’t be a complete mess.
Update: According to ANN, Oshii will only be the Creative Director for to episodes and won’t personally direct.

Halo Legends: Halo Anime by Production I.G, Bones & Studio 4°C

The L.A. Times reports that Microsoft will announce its upcoming Halo Legends project during Comic Con.
Halo Legends will be a series of seven short films, set in the universe created by the (in my eyes overrated) Halo video game series by Bungie & Microsoft, that will be animated (Animatrix & Gotham Knight style) by Studio Bones, Production I.G, Studio 4°C, Casio Entertainment and Toei Animation.
Appleseed director will helm the project as the creative director and will also direct his own episode telling the history of the Spartan warriors. Studio 4°C will deliver a double episode called Origins which compresses 100,000 years of Halo history in 30 minutes.

Starting this fall, Microsoft will preview the episodes on Xbox Live with Warner Home Entertainment releasing them on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in early 2010. A first trailer is supposed to be screened during Comic Con.

Xam’d: Lost Memories: US Blu-ray Disc Release Coming

And another positive and Blu-ray Disc related announcement from the just Otakon. Japanator reports that Sony Entertainment is currently preparing a US Blu-ray Disc (and DVD) release of Xam’d: Lost Memories (Bōnen no Xamdou).
Over a year ago, Sony released the Studio BONES series on the PSN video store (see trailer below) with English subitles – and pretty messed up conditions. The first Japanese Blu-ray Disc release will hit the stores the day after tomorrow, but no further details (release date, number of episodes per disc etc.) have been announced for the US release yet.

Fullmetal Alchemist: TAF2009 for the TV series reboot

Finally, after all these teasing 15 seconds long TV spots the very first ‘real’ trailer for the second Fullmetal Alchemist TV series has been caught in the wild captured during the TAF 2009. Because of the suboptimal camerawork (but thanks a lot anyway, wx6115), there’s no huge difference between the original series and the reboot that will start airing on April 5th, 2009 visible. But I’m sure fans won’t be dissapointed since the second series is supposed to stay close(r) to the storyline of the original manga.
