Porco Rosso: Coming to Blu-ray Disc in July!

Hayao Miyazaki fans rejoice! After several months without any new Blu-ray Disc announcements from Studio Ghibli AV Watch now reports that Miyazaki’s 1992 Porco Rosso will get a high resolution release in Japan on July 17th. Next to other languages the disc will include English subtitles and English audio. Check out the Asian Blu-ray Guide listing for more details.
Now what about Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, huh?


Live-Action Mobile Police Patlabor announced

The traditional Japanese production company Tohokushinsha Film announced to bring back the classic Mobile Police Patlabor franchise surrounding Special Vehicles Devision 2 back to live with a new live-action project. Details haven’t been announced yet, but the launch site mentions 2014 for the yet unnamed project.

First Trailer for Makoto Shinkai’s The Garden of Words


We have met, for each of us to walk forward.
Takao, who is training to become a shoemaker, skipped school and is sketching shoes in a Japanese-style garden. He meets a mysterious woman, Yukino, who is older than him. Then, without arranging the times, the two start to see each other again and again, but only on rainy days. They deepen their relationship and open up to each other. But the end of the rainy season soon approaches…

Ghost in the Shell Arise: First Trailer and Details

A first teaser trailer and some more details for the upcoming Ghost in the Shell Arise project were released during a launch event on Tuesday. Arise will be a series of four 50-minute episodes, with the first epsiode “Ghost Pain” opening in selected Japanese theaters on June 22nd. A DVD and Blu-ray Disc release will follow in July…hopefully with English subtitles like recent GitS related releases.
It was also revealed that Arise will be prequel and will take place in the year 2027, three years before the events of the first GitS film.
