Anime on Blu-ray Sale @ Amazon.co.uk

British retailer Amazon.co.uk is currently having a small sale that includes several anime films and series on Blu-ray Disc. The best bargain in the sale is Shigurui (Death Frenzy) The Complete Series for £6,49 (~7,20€), that is identical (except for the packaging) with FUNimation’s US release (screen shots are available in the Asian Blu-ray Guide) I bought a year ago for a lot more and still haven’t seen yet…
For less that £10 you can also get Blood – The Last Vampire (£7,85), Afro Samurai S1 (£5,00), Afro Samurai – Resurrection (£7,85), Origin: Spirits Of The Past (£8,00), Final Fantasy VII – Advent Children (£9,45), Paprika (£7,97) and Tekkonkinkreet (£6,98) (a must-have!). For a few quids more there are also the complete Devil May Cry Series (£11,85) and the Ghost in the Shell 2.0 + Innocence box (£17,85).

Upcoming Blu-ray Discs from FUNimation in 2010

Speaking of FUNimation and Blu-ray Disc, here’s a scan of the insert that was included in the Evangelion 1.11 BD Special Edition. It promises some very interesting high definition (or probably just upscaled) releases of anime series like Eden of the East, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Casshern Sins for 2010 and beyond.

Afroheimtheater Gewinnspiel: Afro Samurai auf DVD und Blu-ray Disc abstauben

Sorry, this entry is only available in German.

Afro Samurai is coming to Blu-ray Disc in Europe

European Afro Samurai Fans rejoice! While the coolest and best hair-styled samurai of the last decade created by Takashi Okazaki has been available in high definition in the States for some time now, us Europeans were always locked out because of FUNimation’s strict region code policy.
But no more! Manga UK will release the director’s cut version (meaning more nekkidness than during the US TV airing) of Afro Samurai: Season One and the follow up Afro Samurai: Resurrection on Blu-ray Disc on June 1st. The German market will be supplied with the DC of Season 1 and Resurrection by ufa Anime Universum Anime on July 31 2009.

Evangelion 2.0 visits Germany for Animotion 2009

High-caliber announcement for this year’s Animotion fim festival that will take place during the AnimagiC convention in Bonn, Germany. According to this announcement, Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance will be shown just one month after the Japanese theatrical premiere, from July 31 to August 2 in the WOKI Filmpalast with English subtitles!
Other than this German (or even European?) premiere, the announcement mentions Afro Samurai: Resurrection, The Piano Forest and Summer Days with Coo as other anime highlights for the festival.

[23.07.2009] Update: I just got the confirmation that the Gurren Lagann movies and Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance will NOT be screened during the AnimagiC!

Afro Samurai: Resurrection: Second Trailer [Update]

Just in time for the TV premiere on Spike TV January 25th, 2009 a new trailer for Afro Samurai: Resurrection, the second season of the Afro Samurai saga starring Samuel L. Jackson was released on the official website. I still dig the style and design of the show with the combination of Western and Japanese influences, but the first season was a bit shallow for my taste so I hope Gonzo took care of that. FUNimation will release the director’s cut version as a Special Edition on Blu-ray Disc February 3rd 2009 in the US. The first season and FUNimation’s recent BD releases were not codefree and I’m afraid this won’t change, even for Afro Samurai. :(

[29.01.2009] Update: MovieTyme.com just confirmed, that the FUNimation release is region locked and will only work in Region A players.

Afro Samurai: Resurrection: Erster Trailer
