I picked up my copy of Panasia Films’ 20th Century Boys Chapter I Blu-ray Disc release from the post office today (shipping via registered mail just doesn’t agree with my full time job) and stumbled upon something I though was a thing of the long gone standard resolution past.
Probably for licensing reasons, the English subtitles are always displayed together with the Chinese ones! While this may be a great way to learn Japanese and Chinese while watching the film, I would have preferred ‘pure’ English subtitles, thank you!

The disc is locked to region A, so region B people will have to wait a bit longer for a playable version. Except for the little subtitle problem, PQ and AQ (Japanese LPCM 7.1 and DTS HD MA 7.1) of the disc are quite good. 35 full resolution screen shots are available in the gallery.

A few weeks after the second part of the 20th Century Boy Trilogy opened in Japanese theaters on January 31, a first trailer for The Final Chapter (yes, that’s the title) has popped up on several Japanese blogs (and on Nippon Cinema of course). While I have only watched the first part of the trilogy so far, I couldn’t make out any big spoilers in this trailer, so I’d say it’s save to take a peek.

Yes! Hong Kong once again offers salvation for those of us who shed a tear or two when the Japanese Blu-ray Disc of the first chapter of the 20th Century Boys live-action adaptation was released without English subtitles in Januay. DDDHouse and YesAsia are both listing a Blu-ray Disc release from HK based distributor Panasia Films that’s not only available for a much better price but also includes English subtitles!
DDDHouse currently marks the disc as region A. Since this is Panasia Films’ first Blu-ray Disc release we’ll have to wait until April 3, 2009 to see if region B fans can celebrate or have to wait even longer for an understandable and playable version.
[08.04.09] Update:Picked up my copy from the post office today. The BD is locked to region A, the English subtitles are only available together with the Chinese ones…

From April 15th to 19th, Frankfurt transforms into the center of the Japanese film world when the Nippon Connection 2009 opens its doors once again. After giving us a first look at the highlights of the largest festival for Japanese film worldwide, the official site has now been updated with the full program that includes more than 150 feature and short films.

Zum Kinostart des zweiten Teil der 20th Century Boys Realfilmtrilogie nach Naoki Urasawa’s Mangaserie veröffentlicht das japanische Label VAP (Video Audio Project) den ersten Teil auf DVD und Blu-ray Disc.
Während die Blu-ray Disc am 30. Januar nur in einer Variante erscheint, wird es von der DVD zwei Versionen geben. Der Deluxe Edition liegt ein Gitarrenplektrum, eine Flagge mit dem Auge-auf-Hand Symbol (Mangakenner bitte vortreten) sowie ein zusätzliches Booklet bei. Was leider mal wieder bei allen Editionen vergessen wurde, sind die englischen Untertitel, könnte da vielleicht mal jemand den Japanern einen dicken Knoten ins Taschentuch oder sonstwohin machen?

Erster Teaser Trailer zum zweiten Teil der 20th Century Boys Trilogie nach dem Manga von Naoki Urasawa. Sieht alles sehr episch und kollosal aus, ich freu mich schon wenn im nächsten Jahr eine schicke Komplettbox erscheint und man sich auch in westlichen Gefilden an der Realverfilmung erfreuen kann.

Bei YouTube ist ein fast vier Minuten langer Promoclip zur Realverfilmung des Kultmangas 20th Century Boys von Naoki Urasawa aufgetaucht. Aus welchem Teil der geplanten Trilogie die gezeigten Bilder stammen kann ich leider nicht sagen (Mangakenner bitte vortreten), aber besonders die letzten zwei Minuten machen trotz des DV Looks mehr Lust auf den Film als der mir etwas zu nichtssagende erste Teaser Trailer.

Und wem der Promoclip oben nicht reicht, der kann sich gleich seinen Desktop mit dem Hintergrundmotiv (1600x1200px) der japanischen Website zum Film verschönern.

Erster Teaser Trailer zur zweigeteilten Realverfilmung von Naoki Urasawas (Monster) inzwischen fast zehn Jahre alten Manga 20th Century Boys [ANN]. Viel gibt es noch nicht zu sehen, aber die letzten paar Sekunden zeigen schonmal ein paar Frames feinen Tokyo Robomayhem.
