ABC News aired a new trailer for John Carter of Mars, based on the work of Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs. Directed as his live-action debut (if you want to call a CG filled movie like this) by Pixar director Andrew Stanton (WALL-E, Finding Nemo), John Carter will open in March 2012.

Synopsis:

Civil War vet John Carter is transplanted to Mars, where he discovers a lush, wildly diverse planet whose main inhabitants are 12-foot tall green barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, who is in desperate need of a savior.

Let’s Kick Some Martian Ass! New Trailer for War of the Worlds: Goliath

It’s been over two years since the last report on David Abramowitz’s steampunk animation War of the Worlds: Goliath. There’s still no known release date, but at least a new trailer found its way into the net.

Synopsis:

In 1900, the Earth was attacked by ruthless invaders from the planet Mars. The Martian’s 80 ft tall, heat-ray spewing, Tripod battle machines laid waste to the planet, but the invaders ultimately fell prey to Earth’s tiny bacteria.

Fourteen years later, Man has rebuilt his shattered world, in large part by utilizing captured Martian technology. Equipped with giant, steam-powered Tripod battle machines, the international rapid reaction force, A.R.E.S., is Mankind’s first line of defense against the return of the rapacious Martian invaders. Based in a massive fortress complex at the south end of Manhattan Island, the young warriors of A.R.E.S. train under the leadership of Secretary of War, Theodore Roosevelt, and the grim General Kushnirov.

And return the Martians do. The rematch finds the multinational squad of the A.R.E.S. battle Tripod ‘Goliath’ on the front-lines of a vicious interplanetary offensive when the Martian invaders launch their second invasion using even more advanced alien technology. In the crucible of combat, this young team helming the mighty Goliath will be tested to the limits of their endurance and courage as they fight for Mankind’s very survival under the onslaught of an implacable enemy.

Watch Jesus Orellana’s post-apocalyptic Short ROSA now!

Eight months after the very first teaser trailer and several festival screenings, Spanish director and creator Jesus Orellana finally released his CG short ROSA into the web. All 9:50 minutes of it, in high definition and for free on Vimeo.

And boy was this worth the wait! Despite the short running time (well, it’s a short film after all) and several clear references to Ghost in the Shell and Casshern, Orellana manages to create his own post-apocalyptic world with characters who don’t need dialogue or introductions.
I can’t wait to see the aftermath of his announcement about a live-action full-lenght feature.
Synopsis:

In the near future, humanity has disappeared leaving behind a large megalopolis devoid of natural life. From the destruction awakes ROSA, a robot part of the KERNEL project, mankind’s latest attempt on restoring earth’s ecosystem with the recovery of long-extinct plant species.
Wandering among the ruins of the lifeless city, Rosa will soon discover that she is not the only part of Kernel that has awaken.
