Looks like Takashi Miike tasted some blood while filming his remake of Eiichi Kudo’s 13 Assassins, so he decided to bring another samurai classic back to the screens with a remake of Masaki Kobayashi’s 1962 Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai.

Synopsis:

A poverty-stricken samurai named Hanshiro Tsugumo arrives at the manor of a feudal lord under the pretense of wanting to find a suitable place to commit seppuku. The lord sees this as a bluff, as many hard up samurai had made the same request in hopes of getting a hand-out. However, Tsugumo’s true motive is to complete the last part of his vengeance.

    hmm…normalerweise schrillen bei mir sofort die alarmglocken sobald jemand ein remake ausruft; aber hier gehts um ‘takashi’ – der darf das ^^ und zum andern heb ich heut erfahren, dass ‘natali’ die preproduction seines versuchs zu neuromancer angekurbelt hat…ich bin denn ersma milde gestimmt :twisted:

    Das kann nur in die Hose gehen. Ich kann nur schwer empfehlen sich das Original anzuschauen. Auch wenn im Kontext asiatisches Kino das Wort “Meisterwerk” inflationär verwendet wird, Hara-Kiri ist (Seppuku) eines.

    Das Original ist von Masaki Kobayashi (Samurai Rebellion,Kwaidan, The Human Condition)), wunderschön in schwarz weiß gefilmt. In der Hauptrolle Tatsuya Nakadai, in seiner zweitbesten vielleicht sogar besten Darbietung. Schon allein einen Ersatz für Nakadai zu finden dürfte schwierig sein.

    Wer das Original kennt der braucht kein Remake. Aber den Kids wirds gefallen. Etwas flashigere Kämpfe, mehr Blut und schon sind alle glücklich.
