After various rumors and indication, FUNimation today finally announced that they indeed have acquired the US rights for Mamoru Hosoda und Satoko Okuderas Summer Wars and the second part of the Rebuild of Evangelion saga, Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance. Both films will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in 2011 while Summer Wars will also get a theatrical release in 2010.
Speaking of Summer Wars, Taiwanese distributor Mighty will release the award winning anime as a nice looking Blu-ray Disc special edition with a bonus DVD, a film strip and English subtitles on September 10th.

Sorry, the long and hokey version of this entry is only available in German. The long and short of it: today is the Affenheimtheater’s 5th birthday! Yay for me!
Big thanks to all loyal readers and brave commentators (almost 2400 comments!) for spending another busy (thanks to my job, a move and other things) yet fun year with me and this site.

Aufmerksamen Leser mag es beim Blick auf den Kalender vielleicht aufgefallen sein. Das Affenheimtheater feiert heute tatsächlich seinen fünften Geburtstag! Happy Birthday und so!
Wie jedes Jahr üblich möchte ich mich an dieser Stelle bei allen Lesern, fleißigen (fast 2400 Kommentare!) Kommentatoren und Menschen, die meine frohen Kunden (über 750 im letzen Jahr) weiter ins Netz tragen herzlich für die Treue bedanken. Besonders weil es in den letzten Monaten hier aus diversen Gründen (Job, neue Projekte, Umzug und andere Sachen, die das Netz nichts angehen) öfter mal einige längere Ruhephasen gab.
Daß sich diese Umstände in den nächsten Monaten bessern/ändern werden, kann ich leider nicht versprechen. Ihr könnt euch aber sicher sein, daß das Affenheimtheater (und das kleine Brüderlein), wenn auch möglicherweise mit einigen Aussetzern, weiter bestehen wird. Aufgeben war noch nie wirklich mein Ding und außerdem ist mein Ego Mitteilungsbedürfnis einfach zu groß als das ich mein eigenes Netzsprachrohr einfach so einfahren würde…
Natürlich gibt es auch zum diesjährigen Jubiläum etwas abzustauben. Allerdings habe ich mir für dieses Jahr etwas anderes einfallen lassen und werde in der kommenden Woche jeden Tag die im Mai gestartete Umzugsaktion fortsetzen.
Heißt für euch: sieben Tage lang die Chance was feines aus der Affenheimtheatersammlung abzustauben. Ist doch viel schöner als so schnöde Gutscheine, oder?

The story takes place in 690AD, during the time when Empress Wu Ze Tian was preparing to ascend the throne. After the crappy sequel and the recent reports of an impending 3D “upgrade” of the 2000 original we’re finally getting some good news for Battle Royale.
According to the Cult Labs Forum, Arrow Films will release Kinji Fukasaku’s cult classic on Blu-ray Disc in the UK on October 4th. No further details regarding remastering measures or bonus materials have been announced yet.
Arrow Films has already released several films on Blu-ray Discs, some of these releases were region free while others were locked to Region B.

No need for words, it’s the first teaser trailer for Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch and just the right thing to start the day with!

During San Diego Comic Con, Marvel released a new trailer for the upcoming Iron Man anime series produced by animation studio Madhouse. Looks like Madhouse is now using rendered CG frames for the Iron Man suit itself while the first teaser released one year ago still showed some nice traditional animated footage.
