A First Look at Mamoru Oshii’s Live-Action Tetsujin 28 (28 ½)

After the first announcement back in December, the first images from Mamoru Oshii’s live-action adaptation of Tetsujin 28 (aka Gigantor) have surfaced. The film will be called 28 ½, I guess to seperate this version from the other adapations.
The first shot kinda reminds me of Oshii’s The Sky Crawlers

Watch 23 Minutes from Welcome to the Space Show for Free!

Calling it “the longest movie trailer you’ve ever seen”, Aniplex USA is currently streaming the first 23 (of 136) minutes from Koji Masunari’s Welcome to the Space Show at YouTube for free. The stream isn’t working for me right now, but I’m sure this will change soon.

Synopsis:

Five children save the life of a dog-like alien while at a self-run summer camp. He attempts to reward them by taking them to an alien colony on the Moon. Events take a turn for the worse when his report on that attack that injured him causes passage from the Moon to the Earth to be banned, and children are stranded in space. The children need to find a way back home before camp ends and their parents discover that they are missing.
They also have to avoid the poachers that injured their alien friend, and now seem to be stalking them all.

Update: Change the quality to 240p makes the stream work…

Rapid Eye Movies brings us to The Place Promised In Our Early Days…on Blu-ray Disc

After two Blu-ray Disc releases of lesser known Bollywood titles, the German label Rapid Eye Movies announced to release Makoto Shinkai’s second feature film The Place Promised In Our Early Days in high definition on September 10, 2010. The disc will include the original Japanese track, the German dub and German subtitles.
The film is already available in Japan on Blu-ray Disc, but only with Japanese subtitles so we’ll have to keep waiting for an English friendly version. Shinkai’s latest film, 5 Centimeters per Second is also available in Japan (without English subtitles) and has already been announced for BD (but without a proper date) from Manga Entertainment UK.
Rapid Eye Movies owns the German distribution rights for Mind Game, Perfect Blue and both parts of Genius Party, so hopefully we’ll see high definition releases of these gems as well…

New fluffy HD Trailer for Apocalypse Meow: Cat Shit One

Well, more or less a recut of the already released trailer for the cg anime adaptation of Motofumi Kobayashi’s manga series Cat Shit One (Apocalypse Meow) but at least it has a new intro and outro with some new information about how and when the series will be released (could somebody please translate the fluffy Japanese dialogue?).
Plus, this video is in sweet 720p so it has more fluff per pixel…

Mamoru Oshii’s Assault Girls: US R1 DVD in October

Good news for those who’d like to take a closer look at Mamoru Oshii’s Assault Girls without importing the Japanese DVD or Blu-ray Disc that will be released next week on June 23rd.
Nippon Cinema reports that Well Go USA has acquired the US rights for Oshii’s Girls with Guns flick starring Meisa Kuroki, Rinko Kikuchi and Hinako Saeki, and will release it on R1 DVD on October 19th.
This release is supposed to include English subtitles for the Engrish dialogues. Although Well Go USA has already released several titles on Blu-ray Disc, no high definition release has been announced this time.
