Gurren Lagann & Eureka 7 Movies to be screened on AnimagiC 2009

Some more, very good news for this years’ Animotion film festival that takes place during the AnimagiC anime con in Bonn, Germany from July 31 to August 2.
After the announcement that the second film of the Rebuild of Evangelion series: Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance will be shown just one month after the Japanese theatrical premiere, it has now been reported that the Eureka Seven movie Pocket Full of Rainbows (Trailer) and both Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann compilation movies (Guren-hen & Ragan-hen) will also be screened. And to ecstasize my international visitors as well: All four films will be shown with English subtitles!
Pocket Full of Rainbows and Ragan-hen just opened last weekend in Japan, so I think the Animotion team deserves some extra credit for their effort! :kneel:

[23.07.2009] Update: I just got the confirmation that the Gurren Lagann movies and Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance will NOT be screened during the AnimagiC!

New Trailer, Synopsis and Date for Studio 4°C WW2 Anime First Squad

It’s been a while since I last reported on Studio 4°C’s “World War II meets the occult” anime project First Squad, mainly because there was just nothing new to report even though I was eying the official website like a hungry wolf horny monkey.
Now Twitch’s very own Todd reports that First Squad will be screened during Cannes Marché du Film from May 13, 2009 and even got a new trailer featuring all new scenes plus a full synopsis for us to enjoy.

It is 1942. The Red Army is putting up a violent and effective resistance against the German invaders. 14 year-old Nadya is a medium. In a deadly air raid the girl is shell-shocked. Recovering from her concussion, Nadya discovers her new gift – the ability to foresee the “Moments of Truth” – the most critical moments of future combat encounters, in which one person’s actions will decide the outcome one way or the other.

Nadya’s ability is indispensable for the classified 6th Division of the Russian Military Intelligence, which is waging a secret war against the “Ahnenerbe” – an occult order within the SS. The Ahnenerbe summons from the realm of the dead the powerful prince of darkness, Baron von Wolff. With him on their side they hope to change the course of history and achieve world domination. To oppose the Baron Nadya decides to enlist the support of her old friends from the beyond – the Pioneers of the First Squad.

Amazingly Weird First Trailer for Yamagata Scream

Finally a real Trailer for Naoto Takenaka’s Japanese zomcom Yamagata Scream which, unlike the previously released teaser clips, actually shows some footage from the film! Thanks to lively school girls and undead samurai warriors I’m already in love…
As you can see, the film centers around a group of high school seniors on an involuntary field trip to a small village where they somehow awake a clan of samurai warriors who cowardly died while fleeing from a battle.

Hellsing Ultimate on Blu-ray Disc

Finally we will be able to enjoy the malicious grin of our favourite vampire overlord Alucard in high definition! Can you Moe? reports that Geneon/Universal will release the sixth episode of the Hellsing Ultimate OVA on Blu-ray Disc in Japan on July 24, 2009. There will be a standard and limited edition, but until now it’s unclear what extra gimmicks (maybe another relief?) will be included in the latter. Of course, there’s also no mentioning of English subtitles…
Let’s hope that FUNimation didn’t screw up and also got the rights for an US Blu-ray Disc release when they saved Hellsing from Geneon’s cold dead hands in July 2008.

“Training with Hinako” Anime Ero-Fitness rules Japanese DVD charts!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned during my journeys into the Japanese anime underworld it’s the unshakable fact that one should NEVER underestimate the determination and purchasing power of the Japanese Animeotaku elite!
This has just been proven by the fact that the ero-anime fitness video “Training with Hinako” (Issho-ni Training) has conquered the pole position of Amazon.jp DVD rankings (Screenshot) and has beaten titles like WALL-E, Ponyo and Neon Genesis Evangelion!
The following video of an avid fan of Hinako shows just how a well-build (and amazingly detailed) anime character can motivate today’s youth to exercise more…even if you have to hide your face while doing so.
